A good second book. Not as good as the first book, but still a great read.
Art and characters on point, just like the first one, but not a satisfying ending. It ends right in the middle of the story. I thought each book would be its own story as part of the whole, but they're not really long enough for that. These are almost like a half way between a graphic novel and a comic.
I kind of went a bit silly and grabbed the series from the library after enjoying the first one...
This time there is a thief amongst the students...and his name is Antony. He steals a sword that Cleopatra needs in order to fulfill the prophecy and takes off to sell it to the "evil" Octavian. Meanwhile...back at school, Cleopatra gets in trouble for chasing after a thief and ruining school property...she also learns why her roommate believes the prophecy so much and adores Cleo. They decide (with the help of a teacher) to go on a journey to track down the sword---
I like the artwork.
Read if you read book and and enjoy the series.

I previewed this one for my school library- I’ve read book one and now book two. I enjoyed the graphics and illustrations of this one, and the characters are great. I like the school aspect of it, and it’s fast moving and action packed. Some of the fight scenes went on a bit long for me, and I didn’t like that it ended on a cliffhanger. Overall, it’s not quite my genre or style.
For the second installment, Cleo is more settled in her new school, but a bit unnerved by her overwhelming popularity. There's not much time to worry about school stuff, however, since a thief has grabbed the sword, which leads to more questions and bigger problems than just the theft.
The artwork is still appealing and wonderfully colored, and brings much kick-ass to the fight scenes. The dialogue brings some humor, and may get readers interested in learning about Egyptian times. Cleo's friendships deepen as her potential problems escalate. How will she deal with Octavian? Will she start attending classes regularly? Will she ever get back home? I look forward to finding out.

I didnt think this was as good as the first one! it still had a good story but totally not as good as before!
For me, this is three stars, but it'd be higher for the kids who make up the target audience for The Thief and the Sword. I was a little bored, but I still like the conceit of Cleopatra IN SPACE! and I love Maihack's style; even when I wasn't super hooked on the story, I enjoyed the illustrations.
The situations and characters all seem too familiar to me to be exciting (and there were a few pages full of fight panels which aren't my thing) but for younger readers, it'd probably be a great adventure.
I think kids who love Zita the Spacegirl will also get a kick out of Cleopatra in Space (which is why I'm going to be looking for copies for the Zita fans in my house).
