Very fun
This is pretty great. I kind of wish there was more that want just them at the school in this book, but they are kids going to space school and fight alongside Cleopatra, so... I'll let it slide.
This continues the world building with more about why Cleo is in the future in the first place.
The chase through the school is very fun and the writer does a good job focusing on characters as much as he does story. I look forward to more of this fun series.

A good sequel with a good cliff-hanger ending. My students were very excited when I brought this book into the classroom. Clearly, there is a bit of a following to this series. Cleopatra is both courageous and reckless, and she sees the consequences of both of those.
Installment 2 did not disappoint! Cleo's friends are starting to develop deeper personalities and the action was fantastic, even though this volume was very background story heavy. Definitely a great series worth picking up for kids who enjoy sci-fi, history, or just the graphic novel format.
This is an excellent follow up to [b:Cleopatra in Space #1: Target Practice|18527488|Cleopatra in Space #1 Target Practice (Cleopatra in Space, #1)|Mike Maihack|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1391342716s/18527488.jpg|26232946]. We continue to follow our strong and clever protagonist, Cleopatra, as she adjusts to life in the distant future. We get more on the bonds of friendship and a bit on the mysterious prophecy involving Cleo. There's also some nice stuff on the subtle ways war can impact families and society, that you don't typically see in books for kids.
Unlike the first book, this one ends with a pretty enormous cliffhanger, and I have no idea how my kids and I will survive until book 3 comes out! Incidentally, my kids (ages 6 and 9) kept stealing this from me and hiding it on me because they felt it was just that awesome.
While you may be able to read book 2 without having read book 1, you'll miss some critical world details.

This is a fun series. I sometimes have to slow myself down on the action sequences, but my students just seem to "get it"
Chosen by and read with my eight-year-olds. This is a great follow-up to the first volume that expands the lore of the series and deepens the characters. The personal stakes for Cleo become clearer in this book, and we get to know other characters like Zaid and Akila better. The ending is a cliffhanger that made us eager for volume 3!
I enjoy the art and premise behind Cleo. However, I found this second book lacking a bit in progressing the story. If one has not read the first book, they are lost in reading this book. There are several full pages of "action" and that moves the story forward.
Just when Cleo was getting the hang of school and being the savior of the galaxy, a mysterious thief steals the Sword of Kabechet. She is forbidden by her teachers to go after the thief for fear that her life will be forfeit. So, what is a teenage future Queen to do? Add a school dance, popularity, friendship challenges, and a scary twist to the already impossible prophecy, and you have the right mix for a great story.
I really enjoyed catching up with Cleo. There is lots of action, a fun new character, and a glimpse of the evil Xaius Octavian. More of the prophecy comes to light and Cleo is going to need all the help she can get from her friends and her teacher (who is also a cat). Plus, there is an epic cliff hanger at the end that made me want to read the third book right away. Seriously... when will it be out?
I am very impressed by this latest edition and I know my patrons will love it. I am bummed that the galley was not in full color because the artwork is awesome! Maihack is a talented writer and illustrator and has created a wonderful series for girls and boys. I can't wait to get this at our library.
