This story just wasn’t for me. I didn’t really click with these characters. It was rather blah. Here we have 2 characters, Clementine and CP who live an ocean apart but start texting and talking to each other daily. All the while she’s never seen his face. Doesn’t even know his name. Yet they fall in love. I mean I’m 18% through the book and it feels like it could end there. Here’s the bullet points of the plot so far:

*Get to know each other without ever meeting
*Fall head over heals with the guy without really knowing who he is
*He tells you who he is (a prince) and of course it’s all a lie and you are so heart broke over him you’ve been crying for 12 hrs
*The prince who’s desperately in love with you flies all the way from England to prove he is who he says
*they profess their undying love for each other and make love
Aaannnnddd scene. I mean what else is there? It had this feeling of being overly cheesy, sunshine and roses everything is perfect. I want some angst, drama, build up, SOMETHING!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Some little girls always grow up thinking they'll find their prince charming. What they don't expect is to find their prince charming on Instagram or online at all. Clementine gets a random message and it changes her life. CP helps Clementine in ways she didn't realize she needed.

Clementine's family treats her like glass. She had a health scare when she was younger and they can't forget that. Every time she has the slightest twinge, they're ready to rush her to the doctor. She hasn't shared anything with her roommates because she doesn't want them to treat her like her family does. Corresponding with CP has given her a soft place to land. She has a really bad day and confides in him all of her secrets. He's there for her and they just click. He won't send her a picture though, something about his secrets worry her. What's so terrible that he won't tell her who he is?

Christian is taken with Clementine. He found her while scrolling through Instagram and just had to message her. He loves their conversations. He feels like a normal bloke with her. He can be a normal bloke with her. His secret isn't anything nefarious, it's just that he's not as normal as he'd like to be. Living in the spotlight is tough and bringing anyone into that is a big decision. Clementine is worth the risk, she makes him feel like he's on top of the world.

I really loved reading Clementine and Christian's story. They are both looking for something that no one in their lives is giving them, acceptance. Acceptance that they're both capable people, that one sneeze isn't a sign that something is wrong. Their love story was simple, sure there were some bumps along the way but life has bumps. I'm American and this makes me think of our own fairytale taking place this very week. If you love royal love stories, this is one to grab and hug tight to you. I felt like I could see all of the places they were at. I hope you read this book and leave the author a review. Reviews are the best way to show an author you love their work.

I was weary of what to expect after reading the first part of this book. Unlike other Aven books, A Royal Shade of Blue starts out with Clementine and CP in a relationship. Readers don’t get to see their progression over the first few months which I was a little disappointed by. But I found the long-distance love situation relatable which I appreciated. Ultimately, it’s a story of a common American girl winning the heart of an English prince and that is a story I will ALWAYS want to read. A Royal Shade of Blue was the perfect book to read in anticipation of the Royal Wedding in a few weeks!
