I loved a lot of this book. Felt like a very Vonnegut book that isn’t like a Vonnegut book.

This was one of the more straightforward Vonnegut books. Kind of along the lines of Jailbird. I love his more reality-bending novels, but ones like these prove that the strength of his novels is found in the characters and storytelling.

I found this book by Vonnegut, one of the last books he had written. It is equally as silly and full of quirky characters as the rest of his books I have read. I would mention to anyone considering reading the book that the big “unveiling” at the end is totally worth the wait. Few authors depict humankind in quite the same way or with quite as much truth as Vonnegut.

I thought initially that I would enjoy this less than Vonnegut's SciFi novels; it then proceeded to gently take my brain and shove it right through the fence of my doubts. Before I realised what had happened I had devoured the second half

This wasn't my favorite Vonnegut book, and it took me a little while to really get into it, but I ended up thinking it was pretty solid by the end. The final reveal
Spoiler of the masterpiece painting
was powerful and probably my favorite part of the whole story. I'll admit that there were parts where I just felt lost and wasn't following the story, but I feel like that happens at least once in just about every Vonnegut book for me (other than Slaughterhouse Five). There were times that I was just 'getting through' the book, by which I mean parts that weren't all that compelling, but to step back and grade Bluebeard as a whole, I felt more rewarded by finishing it at the end.

it's been a while since i picked up anything by vonnegut but it's always delightful. when it was recommended to me as a great art-related book, and i realized that i already had a copy, it seemed like a no-brainer. it did not disappoint. a compelling story, good character development and some of the best descriptions of modern art, from various perspectives, that i've encountered. well worth a read.
