The One I Want - Rolling Hills Book #1 - Review

Couple: Betsy Sullivan & Wes Taylor

Author: Chelle Sloan

Tropes: single dad, small town, nanny romance, age-gap, sports romance, found family

Review: Get ready to welcome Wes Taylor into your book boyfriend lists! This book is a witty, single parent romance between a retired NFL star and his nanny. It is written in dual POV and full of all the things we love.

Wes Taylor is a newly divorced single dad of three and is caught trying to navigate this new life he has. I admired how Chelle wrote and developed his character in this book since she did not make him bitter. I also really enjoyed his friend group and their humorous outings. His difficulty with accepting his lust for the nanny was also funny to read.

Betsy was a young woman who never quite found her niche in life. I really liked her character since she had wit and humor in spades. I also really enjoyed how she adapted to her role and fit in seamlessly with the kids. I thought the tension between her and Wes was the best, especially when he came to bat for her with her parents.

The book is full of wit, banter and tension and will not disappoint those who live for this type of romance. I enjoyed the slow build tension and explosive spice between these two.

What really makes this book though is the relationship with the three kids Wes has. I enjoyed how each one was unique and funny. Betsy was also not the typical nanny role in tropes like this and I think it was a draw in for the story.

Rating: 4/5, Wes Taylor is goals!

As a stepmom I think the single dad trope will always hit me a little differently. It’s easier to put myself in the heroine’s shoes because I’ve been there. This one was so well written and I found myself relating to both Betsy and Wes.

Betsy moved to Rolling Hills to be closer to her best friend and get a fresh start. She finds an instant connection with Wes and his kids and Wes hires her to be his nanny. He was recently left by his wife and is playing in his last season in the NFL so his life has changed drastically in the last few months.

I loved Betsy’s relationship with each of Wes’ kids. She had a special bond with each of them and fiercely protected them as if they were her own kids. Both Betsy and Wes fight their attraction, and I’m glad they did because that allowed Wes to start a relationship with Betsy as a free man instead of a man who was technically still married. I loved the friendship they started and how easily they opened up to each other. They were very open and honest about their feelings and that made their bond even stronger.

This was a great fist book to this series. It introduced a whole new cast of characters that I can’t wait to learn more about. Wes’ childhood friend group is full of different personalities and I think each will bring something different to the series. I can’t wait for Oliver’s book next! The romantic elementary school teacher!!!

I received an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

WHY AM I JUST LEARNING ABOUT CHELLE SLOAN NOW!?!?! OMG I absolutely loved this book!

This book follows Betsy (also love this character name...don't often see it) and Wes. Betsy is a carefree person, who is moving to Rolling Hills to be close to her bff and try and find her place in the world. Wes is recently divorced, in his last NFL season, moving back to his hometown, and has 3 little kids that are absolute perfection.

Betsy ends up being Wes' parents neighbor/renter and needs a job. She has immediate chemistry with all 3 of his kids so he decides to ask her to be his nanny.

This is a sweet, charming romance that is full of heart. These characters stole my heart, the kids were my favorite. I loved the small-town setting and the sense of community and family. It’s funny and light-hearted but also touching and emotional.

Tropes:
Single Dad x Nanny
Age Gap

Overall: 5
Spice: 2.5
