I keep expecting the quality to fall off on these books, but it just doesn't. Another great read.

I’ve missed the Castle TV show and I used to read these books during the summer hiatus but luckily I’d only read a few so I still have six more to read. Today I found out that Tom Straw is the author behind the books.

I don’t usually care much for police procedurals, they are usually to mired in facts and I prefer quirky characters. But this series is the exception, I gotten to love the characters over the course of the TV run and the novels really draw out the same feelings for me.

This book in particular is very good and extremely personal to Heat/Beckett.

I think this book is so far the best in the series. The twist definitely was surprising to me and I'm interested to see how they take this story farther in the next book.

Loved it. Just as the other 3 books it is a very easy read and feels like a lone episode. This one was fast paced, lost a bit of momentum in the middle and the ending felt a little rushed but other than that it was very good.

2.5 stars, but I'm rounding down because it felt like the middle book of a trilogy (even though it's not) and it was less funny/more dark compared to the previous books in the series. I'm still looking forward to the installment, though.

This book addresses the murder of Heat's mother, so the character development goes a bit more serious than the precious books. Not a huge fan of the spy plot line, but I will keep reading the series because they are entertaining The ability to picture the tv characters and hear their voices adds to the book. Love that the books are a spin off from the show.

An excellent vacation read. I am terribly amused by Detectives Malcolm and Reynolds from the Burglary unit. I caught enough of the foreshadowing to solve about half the mystery pretty early, but I had a couple things very wrong... With all this build-up to make me hate her, Det. Hinesburg's fall is going to be stellar. Also, I will probably never forget the mental image of Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle writing the character Jameson Rook doing a sexy butt wiggle. Fabulous.

If you like the series, you'll love the books. But I think the writing is so tight that you would enjoy it even if you aren't familiar with the show.

The Nikki Heat series finally shifts to the mystery surrounding the murder of Cynthia Heat, Nikki’s mother. And if you’re thinking it will mirror Johanna Beckett’s murder from the show Castle, it really doesn’t. The mystery begins to slowly unravel as the book progresses, and though the reveal of what Cynthia was really up to isn’t necessarily shocking or groundbreaking, the reveal doesn’t feel hokey, and there’s plenty of Nikki-Rook tension to fill in the proverbial gaps.

The end of this book is a whirlwind, paced perhaps just a bit too quickly, and I’ll admit the ultimate reveal of who killed Cynthia left me a little confused at first – so much so that I went back and re-read the passage in question just to make sure. This is also the first book in the series to really end on a cliffhanger of sorts.
