This brought me back so much. Tickling the shell to open it, furnishing the pot at the end of the rainbow. Locked memories of details I now remember being obsessed with

Having already read and loved "Ruby the Red Fairy", my mother bought this book for me when I was around six years old, and once again, I was hooked. My memories of this series mainly consist of my mother taking me into town to the nearest Waterstones every week to buy the next book in the series, and her reading the books to me every night before bed. We both loved fairies, and so it was the perfect mother-daughter bonding time. My memories of those times are the ones I'm most fond of. I recall that as time went by, my friends and I were swapping books and borrowing the books from one another during break time at school. I never missed a book in the first ten series, because I always had a friend whom I could borrow a certain book from. Those days were magical.

Like the last book it was very aesthetically pleasing, from the cover to the pages.

I read this selection from the Rainbow Magic series out of curiosity, but won't give it any rating, since I'm undecided and not really the intended consumer. This series is in a close contest (for the greatest number of titles on the local library's shelves) with the apparently-similarly-conceived Beast Quest series. Its emphasis on marketing aside, it was better than I expected: not overly saccharine, the writing straight-forward, and the fairy-dusting kept within the requirements of the plot. I'm not so sure about the lesson implied (as another reviewer noted), whether the message is: "Be willing to accept assistance from someone bigger and stronger;" or "You girls need help from a male, even if he's just a frog." I would need to read further into the series to decide how that issue is settled, but I'm not sure that I'm curious enough to do that.
If my kids had gotten into fairies (instead of dinosaurs) when they were young I would have been OK with them reading this -- with parental guidance as far as sexist messaging, if needed.
