good mystery-- I'd recommend it to fans of the wire on HBO. lots of intermixing of crime and politics.

Easy read. Would have liked to see a little more about the actual suspect identified at the end.

I was really looking forward to this book because I enjoyed Locke's two other novels, but this one didn't hold my attention. The plot was convoluted, and I didn't care for any of the characters.
Jay is a terrible attorney; how did he have any clients?

Jay Porter is still dealing with the aftermath of a 15 year old case when he's drawn into another legal battle. A missing girl and a political campaign are connected in ways that have dangerous consequences and upend a community.

Set in the late 1990's but written in 2016, Pleasantville is an appropriate novel for today's time. It is an exploration into the inner workings of politics and political manipulation. At the center is the murder of a young girl, but what is uncovered is a plot to sway elections that has national implications. Well developed prose that makes you feel (good or bad) for each and every character.

A new favorite author. Terrific characters, plot, setting - I hope Locke is at work on another novel in the Jay Porter series!

Well this was a very interesting read, a lot more intriguing plot than the Black Water Rising. Plot started off a little scattered, left me wondering what the connections were but it all came together solidly with a pretty well executed plot twist. I thoroughly enjoyed Locke’s writing style, its introspective lens provided depth and was funny in some parts, making me warm up to Jay Porter’s character. I loved every bit about this story 👏🏾👏🏾

I had a hard time remaining interested in this book, and I'm not sure why. I was invested in the characters. I had a hard time keeping up with who they were and how they related to each other. I often felt like I had been dropped into the middle of the story.
