I've been kind of marking these as read and moving on, but I have to pause here to say that in the line of mysteries I've quickly consumed, this one stands out to me. Sure, the heart of it is future technology la la la, but it feels memorable.

Some InDeath books and minor characters are more memorable than others. As soon as I hear the words Louis K Cogburn and Donald Duke I think of Purity. Over dramatic as usual, but that is part of the charm of the entire series. The highlight in Purity for me is seeing Jamie come into his own with all the comp geek stuff. Too bad he hasn't had a bigger role in the series as a whole.

A small-time drug dealer goes crazy and beats his neighbors. A known pedophile also shows the same symptoms of rage and orificial bleeding. It also hits an EDD man working on the drug dealer's computer. Is it just the heat? Or is something more sinister going on?
Well, considering that the same computer message shows up on the personal computers of the first two and eventually more people. Troy Truehart, a recurring character in the series, is the first cop on the original scene and accidentally kills the drug dealer. His first call is to Eve which brings her into the case. This is a high profile case and she'll have to juggle the publicity arm of the mayor's office with her own desire to see justice done.
This is also the book where Tibble tells Eve that she's "made choices that have prevented you from becoming the youngest female captain in the NYPSD."

I just love this series and the characters so much. This one really delved deep into good vs evil and what is right and wrong. I love how much passion Eve has for her job, but cares even more deeply for her friends. There were a lot of gasp worthy moments in this one and I can't wait for more! Especially more Eve and Roarke!
