Its advice is simple, but what I need to hear. The first part which can be boiled down to “write for clarity” is beautiful. The second part, where he dissects real life examples of poor sentences, was uncomfortable to read because I probably have many of those mistakes in my own writing. But that’s why I read this book, to learn to write better.

Absolutely great book. Thought-provoking and inventive. Hard to argue with the contention that making a good sentence is the basis of all good writing!

I've read many books about writing--this one had some good points, but I did get annoyed by it only being just sentences and no paragraphs, which goes against a reader's expectations of a book Also, while there were some gems of good advice, as a writing teacher I also found that he was quite dismissive of some of the conventions that aspiring writers need to master.

More meditation on writing than practical guide. I suspect this is one of several copies of this I will ultimately own.
