this appears to be a trailblazer, but I would recommend " Eating Animals" to get much of the same information in a more readable and engaging volume.

This is the book that introduced me to veganism. It makes compelling arguments for eliminating animal products, and happily living on all plant products for all you consume. Talks about the ramifications of animal vs. plant products concentrating on 3 aspects: for the animals, for the earth, for human health. If you care about the future of the earth and its inhabitants, you'll be interested in this book.

I think this book was written a few years ago but the arguments are still compelling and the sources to back
Up the arguments are presented in this book. Also, this is the founder of Baskin Robbin’s (American Ice cream shop) son. He walked away from his family’s business because of how strongly he felt about the food choices we make. That was a selling point for me.

The writing style is not necessarily my jam and the first few chapters felt preachy. Aside from that, over 30+ years later, this information still feels relevant in today's world. & on that basis I would recommend.
It outlines the hard truths behind the unethical, propaganda fed by big corporations; the large health, economic and environmental impacts as a direct result of demanding production and consumption of animal products. There is hope for the future of sustainability, maybe humans can begin to live harmoniously and connectedly again with all living things.
Whether you choose to give up animal goods or not, it's worth giving a read.

This is a classic! Seeing the cover of the book makes me want to read it again. I was in my late teens, early-twenties when I read this book, and it completely freaked me out! John Robbins, the heir to the Baskin-Robbins business, decided to opt out because of how the U.S. processes meat, dairy, and other food stuffs. I highly recommend this book.

First impression: John Robbins is a raving lunatic... and this comes from someone who generally agrees with most of what he is saying. I appreciate the message he wants to get across but I would much prefer to have the information delivered in a better way than what seems to be unorganized rants. I donated this book or sold it to Half-Price.

Essential for anyone considering cutting back meat or dairy. Offers arguments in many aspects such as environmental, nutritional, and regarding animal welfare. Definitely a life changing book.

I read this book, and it is the main reason I have been vegetarian for almost 11 years now.
