These gimmicks are getting really stupid. But otherwise it's great fun if you don't take everything too seriously. I enjoyed seeing underrated characters like Doom, Mister Sinister, the Fantastic Four and Future Foundation take center stage.

The Battleworld concept actually worked out way better than I thought it would because it opened up so many past storylines. For instance, I had no idea who Maestro was so that led me to look into all the various Hulk stories.

Started off interestingly. First chapter was great. Lots of suspense. No idea what to expect.

Then it was all exposition until the last chapter. Seriously. So. Much. Talking! It was enough to make me stop reading but somehow I continued. Let the story flow and give us some action, please. If your world-building relies entirely on exposition, there’s a problem.

I could count the female characters on one finger. And my usual grouse with comics, their outfits were ridiculous and there were too many butt shots of the women. There were so many Thors, but actual Thor? Two lines. Captain Marvel? In the background. Storm-Thor? A glimpse. Susan Storm relegated to wife of three baddie. Valeria gets to be a genius but she’s usually shunted aside.

The art was good except the faces which were awful. Those shocked expressions will give me nightmares.

I wanted to like this story and I was engaged but this could have been way better.

I'm beginning to sound like a comic snob but I'm tired of all these EARTH SHATTERING BIG CHANGE events. And this time it was really Earth shattering as Marvel shed all of its extra weight and did away with all of the multiple universes they haphazardly created over the years. So now we're left with just Earth 616 and Earth 1610 where they try to eliminate the other before the other eliminates them. Ultimately they fail and frakkin' Doctor Doom uses his stolen Beyonder powers to appropriate Reed Richards' life and remake the worlds into Battleworld where he is "God." Textbook megalomaniac. Can Doom join the few that have died and never came back? He is just a tired character who's brand of overly theatrical supervillainness went out with bell-bottom pants. The whole Secret Wars event was pretty much blah I have to say and the only time Marvel did a world changing event right was House of M and Age of X to name a couple.

Everyone do yourselves a favor and just read the synopsis on Wikipedia. That's ALL you need.

I love alternate world tales and saw plenty of hype online about this story. I haven't read all of the lead ins to the story, or the aftermath, but I think this was decently self contained. Doom has stolen the power of the Beyonders and has become God in an effort to save existence. He has taken small pieces of existing universes to create a patchwork reality (Battleworld) where an army of Thors serve as his Law, plenty of recognizable Marvel faces rule sections of the world, and where Doom's rulings finally serve as the final word on any topic. Something seems "off" about Battleworld though, and the residents are starting to question their reality. Who will be there to set things right and put Doom back in his place? What happened to the good (and bad) guys? Read this and find out! I've become, like most folks, a huge fan of Esad Ribic's art. Regardless of your thoughts on the story here - the art is fantastic from start to finish.

A basic superhero plot packed to the brim with hundreds of characters, mega ultra super god powered abilities, and eye-rolling homages to who these 30+ year old characters really are deep down(good people!).

Beautifully illustrated and paneled with an icredible sense of scale and weight. I look forward to flipping through the art later on when the brain cells I lost reading this thing finally grow back.

4 stars.
Well-written stuff. A good combination of action and depth. I really love Doom and this is perhaps the best portrayal of him I've seen.
