This was a fantastic read! Somper weaves such an imaginative and captivating tale for his readers. It has exactly what readers want in a pirate and vampire story - action, adventure, love, death and mystery. Perfect.
adventurous hopeful inspiring mysterious reflective fast-paced

Justin Somper is the GOAT in making adult themes palatable for his younger audience. This third book in the series addresses and moves through grief, depression, and addiction all while maintaining the intrigue of the supernatural world & the journeys of the Tempest twins...

Grace and Connor are up to some new tricks. Grace is back on the Vampirate ship and taking Lorcan to Sanctuary to heal his eyesight. While there, she learns she has a rare gift for healing and struggles with Lorcan's distance as he tries to battle his internal and emotional suffering.

Meanwhile, Connor starts to question just exactly he is doing with his life after killing someone. He runs from his friends and takes off on his own, unsure of his future, especially of being a pirate.

The Vampirates series by Justin Somper tells the story of 14 year-old twins Grace and Connor Tempest. Their story begins in Demons of the Ocean when, after the tragic death of their father, the twins head out to sea. They are caught in a vicious storm and are seperated by the current. Connor is saved by Cheng Li, a young deputy aboard the pirate ship The Diablo. He is brought aboard and made one of the crew, where he enjoys an exciting life of piracey and adventure. Meanwhile, Grace on the other hand is rescued by 17 year-old Lorcan Fury, who pulls her out of the seething ocean and aboard the Vampirate ship The Nocturn. Throughout this series you get to journy with the Tempest twins through all of the excitment, and terror of their lives aboard two very different kinds of Pirate Ships.

Most recently I read The Blood Captain. While I was reading this book I was Grace and I was risking everything for the people I loved. I was brave and strong. Books offer great escapes and fantastic adventures, and this is one journey that you don't want to miss!

Arg! Why do I keep reading these?
If you thought Tide of Terror was bad, wait until you read this. Jez, the lame and unnecessary character finally gets killed, only to come back to life as YET ANOTHER flipping Vampirate. Grace faints some more, hangs out with more vampires (excuse me, Vampirates) and almost gets killed by a ribbon. A freaking RIBBON.
Oh yeah, and Connor fights with yet another unnecessary character (Moonshine? Seriously?) over yet another unnecessary plot point that was just there to fill more pages.
Someone slap me if I read the next one.

Nada que voy a decir, es exactamente el mismo libro en dónde todo está pasando en un LAPSO DE 3 MESES
Also como me voy a imaginar a un pibe de 14 años como el mejor pirata espadachín conocido hasta el momento?

Grace can't bear that Lorcan is sick, so she ventures ti the sanctuary with the Captain to help Lorcan heal. However, even there it's not as peaceful as it appears as Siderio is polluting the mind of the residents there too. On the other hand, Connor doesn't know if he still belongs to El Diablo after the death of his friends. He can't find peace and after dealing with the nephew of his captain, he needs to figure out what he wants and how he wants to live his life.

I've never read the rest of the books before, so I can't wait to see what happens after that cliffhanger!

Grace and Connor, twins that chose to join different pirate crews, continue their adventures in the third book of the Vampirates series. Grace stays on her Vampirates ship, with vampire and donor crew, and journeys with them to a guru that can help heal an ill vampire on the crew. He has been unable to feed on his donor, which is suspending the youth that she has been enjoying as his donor. She is rapidly aging, and though she and Grace don't get along, Grace feels compelled to help her. Connor, meanwhile, is having adventures of his own with other humans, meeting his ebullient captain's brother (also a captain) and his family, and not sure how he feels about them. This new captain's wife is named Trofie, and has a golden hand obtained under mysterious circumstances. His son, around Connor's age, is ill-mannered and seems to dislike Connor from the instant he lays eyes on him. The whole family is quite pretentious, which Connor isn't used to, but he tries to be polite for the sake of his captain, who has earned his loyalty time and time again. Recommended for grades 6-8.
