I have seen the movie and a good bit of the tv series but it was interesting to see what both of them left out. i didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable. none of them have a true sense of friendship and what it means to be friends. they all keep secrets from the people they love.

Another trilogy I am going to have to read and soon. The books's storyline actually reminded me of several other ya books I have read recently, but I enjoyed the story and its characters. Clary is a girl who finds out she is part of an entirely different world. With her best friend Simon and some interesting characters she meets she becomes involved in the world of demons and Shadowhunters.

A real page turner

Fun and full of action. It took me a bit to get into it, but I certainly chuckled a few times. An easy read with an easy-to-follow plot and world.

This was a 2.5 star for me only because I listened to it and was able to lose myself in the story for the sake of a story. Apparently I'm a sucker for YA angst if it is an urban fantasy. The writing was not amazing, I hated the twist of the ending and how there really wasn't an ending. I probably won't pick up the rest of the series but it had some unique paranormal elements that kept me listening and I'm sure my tween will love the movie. Beach read at best.

Admittedly I read this after bingeing the not great but entertaining TV show during COVID quarantine. When I first picked up the book I couldn’t read it, but I gave it another shot when I became available at the library. It was entertaining but not great. I think the TV show was actually better, but I’ll probably keep reading the series when I need fluff.

Also, I’m 38 so definitely not the target audience.
