Fun and full of action. It took me a bit to get into it, but I certainly chuckled a few times. An easy read with an easy-to-follow plot and world.

This was a 2.5 star for me only because I listened to it and was able to lose myself in the story for the sake of a story. Apparently I'm a sucker for YA angst if it is an urban fantasy. The writing was not amazing, I hated the twist of the ending and how there really wasn't an ending. I probably won't pick up the rest of the series but it had some unique paranormal elements that kept me listening and I'm sure my tween will love the movie. Beach read at best.

Admittedly I read this after bingeing the not great but entertaining TV show during COVID quarantine. When I first picked up the book I couldn’t read it, but I gave it another shot when I became available at the library. It was entertaining but not great. I think the TV show was actually better, but I’ll probably keep reading the series when I need fluff.
Also, I’m 38 so definitely not the target audience.

City of Bones was definitely one of those books that just sucks up your attention with no intent of letting go. A very good book when you're looking to just sit on the big comfy couch and stick your nose in that book. The hours just fly by and I honestly didn't know that the sun set when I put the book down. My day flew away as my attention was grasped by Cassandra Clare's City of Bones.
One thing that I truly enjoyed reading within this book was the action and fighting. It wasn't weak where the violence was lacking. Some books water the fighting down but not in this one. The fast-paced action shots were vivid within the writing and the imagination.
The character development within the book had me grown attached. In the beginning I was with Clary all the way with seeking to find her mother. Though sometimes I wanted to throw a book at her, to open her eyes to what was right in front of her. It's not that she was oblivious...well yeah, she was oblivious. And Jace. The lovely, gorgeous "Mr. Golden", Jace. He's that character who's sly charm and smooth moves, or should I say self-absorbed nature just draws you in. I wasn't extremely enthralled with Jace, to tell you the truth. The high and mighty nature was nit picky within me. I don't hate his character, though there is some minor irkage dwelling within.
Another thing about City of Bones is the twists and turns within that always keep your attention spot on. I couldn't tell you how many times I was smacking my face because of what what going on. Usually I find plot twists, when over used or used incorrectly, abhorred in nature and I can't even finish a book, but Cassandra Claire really had me going and I didn't even mind it! The shocks were enjoyable, some of them I could see coming, but biggest one at the end OH BOY! And CoB fans know what I'm talking about!
Final Summation: Definitely, if you haven't read this series, go and get it.

This was one of my middle school/high school comfort reads and I'm a little ashamed that I still love it, have always wished for a cover that is less embarrassing to take out in public tho

Star Wars meets Harry Potter meets Twilight meets Flowers in the Attic?
I didn't expect this book to be as long as it was. Even as I kept reading I was hoping for the pace to pick up. I was really glad there was tidbits of info reveal and not a big dump at the end. The little reveals kept me reading. The most annoying thing was that the main character, Clary, just sort of stood by like a giant, useless lump during most of the action scenes. Hey, she admitted that she felt paralyzed and weak a couple of times. Own your faults, girl.
I really wanted her to get over her fear and take charge. I know she kept saying she wasn't trained like everyone else, but she needed to do SOMETHING. Clary sees symbols in her mind's eye, which she often fails to act on. There's the knife at her side that she's too afraid to grab. Clary, whenever you DO act, it usually turns bout pretty damn well. Stop standing behind other people.
Please do not have Bella Swan syndrome.
I don't know what to think after the ending, um, revelation. I'm trying not to spoil. You get a tingling in your naughty bits for someone you should NOT have a tingling for. Then, in the end, it's all good. Mercy me! What a whoopsie doodle! That tingling was just a fluke. Your love is kosher. You no longer feel the tightness of their abs when you wrap your arms around their middle. The flex of their taunt, muscular shoulders just holds no appeal anymore. You shouldn't love that person in a naught way. So, you just don't. Was it the holy water? I might need to read the next book to find out.

Couldn't get past page 86 and that was too far for me. I'm sick of seeing this in my night table stack of books. This book should have zero stars.
