I found the beginning of this book a little confusing. I know it's part of a series and I suspect that someone familiar with the other books may not have the same experience. That said, once things shifted and I realised who the main character ACTUALLY was, things started to make more sense and I rather enjoyed "the ride" of the murder mystery. I think the way it ended was also a nice touch in bringing continuity (and I did have my suspicions as to the true identity of that character from the start).

Okay, well, this definitely wasn't my favourite Frida Klein book.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a very good thriller and solid page-turner (as can be proved by my entire Saturday afternoon spent reading it because I just NEEDED to know what would happen next).

But Frieda's behaviour annoyed me so much! It was so reckless and risky and it's only sheer luck she didn't end in jail or worse. So many things in that story felt implausible (and even a bit off-character when it comes to Frieda) and then, in the last 15 pages, out of the blue, appears a guilty person you would never have thought of. Okay, sure, sometimes it's a good thing not to be able to guess who did it but in this case, it felt rushed (to me, at least).

The one thing I really enjoyed about Friday On My Mind is
the final twist about Dean Reeves. Wow, I didn't see that one coming and this time, I say it as a compliment
.

So all in all, not the best in the series but I can't wait to know what Saturday will bring us!

The Frieda Klein series stands out from the admittedly small number of mystery/detective stories I’ve read, and Friday on My Mind may be the one that’s had me most on the edge of my seat.

Because I don’t read book blurbs, I was completely shocked that the corpse of the day was Sandy’s. Like, fuuuuuuuuck. I mean, yes, she dumped him last book but not into the Thames! Frieda’s always been in danger in these books, but things are definitely spreading out from just being about her; she’s relying more on those around her (including Carlson, which is promising for ship). Also, she seems to be changing a lot. She doesn’t behave in the typical, put-together, unflappable, ever-clever Frieda Klein way.

I think one of the reasons this series really works for me is that these mysteries have been taking place over the course of many years. It’s not back to back drama and murder investigations in Frieda’s life. Between the books, she works as a psychiatrist and goes about her “normal” life as best she can.

I’m assuming there are two more of these to go, and I’m really excited to see if she gets with Carlson and for the final showdown with Dean Reeve.

The writing in this book is so fast paced and so easy to read. Kudos for Nicci French and the Dutch translater
I am still not a fan of Friedas character but this was another great instalment in this series and I can't wait to read the rest and see how it all comes together

"Your ex lover is murdered. With no other leads the police make you their chief suspect..."

A water logged body of a murdered man has been found floating in the Thames, the only form of identification a hospital wrist tag, with the name 'Dr F Klein', but Frieda Klein, is alive and kicking, the body belongs to someone from her past. With evidence from her questionably tragic and bloody past, she becomes the primary suspect in the bloody murder, but she suspects a dark character she once knew. Klein has two options: become a fugitive in order to prove her innocence or let the police take her in. What would you do?

I enjoyed the way that this book was written, the two main characters are strong females along with various male leads. The plot was ingeniously written, nail - bitingly addictive right up until the very end, I thought I knew how the ending was going to go but it took a sharp turn with few chapters to go. Filled with twisted betrayals and revealed secrets, utterly unpredictable! I was gripped from page one! I personally thought this was a great read and would recommend it for lovers of murder mystery / thriller. It is book five of the Frieda Klein series, but I hadn't read the previous books and I don't think that affected how I felt about the book itself (hence the five stars).

Καμιά φορά αναρωτιέμαι τι διαβάζω...ποιός σοβαρός δολοφόνος θα έβαζε στο χέρι του πτώματος ενα ταμπελακι με το όνομα κάποιου με σκοπό να τον ενοχοποιησει;;
