Filler material and a compendium for the Blood and Ash series. Waiting for the next book to see what happens!

The start of this book was the history of the worlds, characters, and Gods. It was nice to have a concise history.

It tells you about the characters in both the Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire series and gives a synopsis of them up to this point in the series. I felt that it was a good review for me on some characters.

There was so much information in this compendium. I feel like I need to read it, mark it up, and then reread both series because I have a greater understanding. Maybe. Maybe I need a tandem read.

The artwork was amazing. My only complaint was that they were black and white in print. Not that it was BAD in black and white. There is just something about color. I understand why they were after having it explained. But I would’ve paid more to have them in color.

That was not written by JLA. What was written by her was amazing. I loved the new scenes, the excerpts from Miss Willa’s diary, the interview…

I originally read a Kindle version, but I had to get a hard copy to mark it up for future reads of the series.

The version of the book I read was an advanced copy.

I do appreciate glossaries and appendices in books especially in high fantasies like this story where there are a lot of characters and magical elements, but this book had sooo much unnecessary info that made it drag on. I ended up skipping most of the info and just reading the little stories in between. What I want to know was why was it necessary to write about every single character’s journey? Shouldn’t we know it especially if we’ve read the books?

I skimmed through about 70% of this, desperately hoping for something worthwhile. All I wanted was more about Malik and Milicent, Malec and Iris’s past, and the stories of Nektas, Reaver, and Jadis. Instead, we got a rehash of old info with three bonus scenes and Emil’s letter as the only highlights.

Finally done! This book has taken me almost two months to get through. I have never taken that long to finish a book, but it was unbelievably hard to get through. It was repetitive, monotone and just plain boring. Reading this was like getting teeth pulled out. I had to force myself to read finish it, and I will never read it again.
I love JLA, and I have read almost all of her books, but this book was one the worst books I have ever read. It feels like it was written just to earn some money, and maybe she did. But this book is an epic failure, and I am actually very disappointed in her and the book, as I expected more from her/the book.

For those thinking about reading this as a summary of the 8 books in the Blood and Ash series and the Flesh and Fire series, I would recommend rereading the books instead, as this book is a waste of time.

I am sorry, but that's just my opinion.

So this is definitely a different “side quest” kind of book for the FBAA/FAF series. I honestly thing reading this would be PERFECT to recap before the next book in 2025 as an alternative to rereading the series.

It also has bonus novellas mixed in that can help give you extra snippets for theories on where the plot is going

This was exactly what I needed for the FBAA world!

With the next installment on the horizon, I love having this encyclopedia on hand to jog my brain on the different storylines, characters and terms. It will definitely save me from having to reread the previous books, thank you JLA & Rayvn!

Rough list of things included in this book:
-pronunciation guide
-characteristics
-character background stories
-terms & glossary of places, people, lore
-maps
-bonus chapters from Miss Willa's POV
-character art
