Donna Leon always reveals to her readers the delights as well as the seamier sides of Venice. In this one, she takes a long time to get to the motive and to the murderer and I found the wait a bit irritating, I’m sorry to say. Think it’s time for me to take a break from Brunetti, his lunches at home sparring with Paola, his crush on Signorina Elettra and his contempt for Patta, his boss. I’ll be back I’m sure, but not for a while.

I just love these books. Guido Brunetti is such a fascinating character and I love how each case has an impact on him.

This book makes you want to become a vegetarian. The scene at the slaughterhouse was described masterfully.
This book paints a picture of greed. Greed not matter how wrong it is what they are doing. This job certainly made this poor murder victim depressed and I have no idea how hard this must have been to him.So many people know and nobody said something. This murder could have been prevented so easily.

Beastly Things is the 21st in the series by Donna Leon. This book hit close to home on the sanitary practices of meat packing plants, which is a tributary plot line to the murder mystery. As always, I enjoyed this book and my visit to Venice.

The Guido books keep getting darker and darker. She is making her point that in Italy the laws and regulations are applied based more on who you are and not equal justice for all.

Another really good addition. I especially liked the very last chapter. Leon seems to be specializing in these!
