Hmmm... Not really sure what to make of this book. I feel like it was enjoyable to read and it definitely kept me interested but everything that was keeping me interested kinda wrapped up quickly and thoughtlessly. It had an extremely anticlimactic ending and I feel duped that they never REALLY explain who the hell the miniaturist was! It was kind of like the author ran out of steam and was like "ehhhhh, this explanation is good enough"

Burton has created such a compelling story that literally transports you back and it was just so interesting and real and raw.

I enjoyed reading this story, but it wasn't perfect. My biggest beef with it is that thematically and in terms of the main characters' ideas and actions, it was too modern for the setting. Not a bad book by any means, but not what it might have been.

This book kept me *just* engaged enough to want to know how it ends, it was mostly predictable, yet satisfying. It became a PBS historical drama, and can see why, but it would struggling to keep up with what most readers are looking for today.
