"He is no longer the smallest seed." This might have been the stupidest fucking plot twist I have ever seen. SEED? Goodbye.
I do really like this series and the way each book is about a new couple, but it felt like this should have been the third book. I think the last book should have gone to Bri or Tal. I liked the character development, but it felt like the author was relying too heavily on the significance of their shared backstory without giving the reader enough reason to care about it in the first place. Otherwise, I liked Carys and Sy as characters and I liked the way their mystery-emotional-subplot was resolved. The A-plot kind of fell apart, in my opinion? There was an on-page resolution (that even made me tear up a little) but it didn't feel like things were wrapped up emotionally.
Still my fav romantasy series, but I think that's just because I go into it prepared for cliches and trashiness. I think I'll reread soon! This is one of the only romantasy series I've read in the past few years that I've actually enjoyed lol

I fell in love with Okrith with High Mountain Court and continued to fall in love in different ways as our characters split and journeyed in their own stories. At last, we come to Carys, who is trying to manage a court that was never hers but that she's fighting for, while a hellbent witch and her army is looking to take over the world. And just to complicate things, her ex (and mate) comes strolling back into her life, looking to take the crown from her.
We join Carys and Ersan as they battle NOT to rekindle their love and through the trials of a tournament and a war. What I think this book does great is make Carys a great representation of disabled bodies as she deals with PMDD/GAD/depression and endometriosis/PCOS while being a total badass who not only shows how she manages her chronic illnesses in a practical/relatable manner but does it all while being a leader everyone is looking to for answers and getting shit done.
I think the pacing of managing a tournament, war, and a romance redemption was tough. Packing that all into 350 pages was a little unrealistic and it makes the war portion of the book seem fairly anticlimactic. However, the tournament and romance story pace is strong and allows this title to be 4 stars for me.
I received an ARC ebook version of this title from Netgalley and am never compensated for my reviews.

I was both excited and sad to get this book. Excited to find out where the story ended... sad that it was ending. The 5 Crowns of Okrith series has definitely been a favourite of mine, and The Amethyst Kingdom did not disappoint. Full of jaw dropping revelations, laugh out loud moments, heart stopping susspence, and heart clenching love, loss and honesty, this is a book that kept me engaged from the first word to the last. This series will definitely be one that I will remember for many years to come and will hold a special place in my heart.

Maybe I'm just being picky, but I think this book needed a little better editing/proofreading. For example, I cringed every time I saw the word "then" instead of "than," which takes me out of the story. Beyond that, the book was good and I enjoyed it otherwise.

What a wonderful conclusion to this series and a thoughtful telling of Carys’ own journey. There were some twists that I didn’t expect, which made the story more intriguing. My heart is full upon the completion of this series. Well done!

Carys has entered the competition for the crown to the Eastern Kingdom, and she’s a clear favorite. But then Ersan, her ex-Fated, joins the competition. He lost her trust and broke her heart many years ago when he kept the secret of her half-sister from her. But he has not given up on the hope of winning her back. She will not let herself be distracted by him, though, because the threat of the Violet Witch still hangs over the Kingdom. Carys wants to be strong and help save the Kingdom, but she doesn’t know if she has the strength to stand by herself.
This was a disappointing end to this steamy epic fantasy-romance series. I wanted to like it because the romantic leads were dealing with depression or had a disability, but I felt those things were not handled well (e.g. the disability would disappear sometimes). Things were inconsistent all over (flow, jumps between chapters, descriptions, characters actions, etc), and there were parts where it felt like things were missing from the text (scenes, explanations, etc). Even though this is the final book in the series, it felt like the shortest as it rushed to give an ending to the overarching story and didn’t have much of a story for Carys herself. I also dislike when the main conflict between two characters stems entirely from one refusing to tell the other something. The romance was definitely steamy, but felt forced. Overall just disappointed with this one.
Content warning: severe depression, suicidal ideation
