How do I describe this book with no spoilers?...
Imagine walking in and discovering your sisters dead body on the floor and what's more shocking, you hear and catch a glimpse of the person who did it. Years have gone by and the police still haven't caught your sisters killer. You are now a recluse author and happen to see a man on the TV who looks exactly like the person you believe killed your sister, all those years ago. You can't phone the police because you don't have any new evidence, plus you're not their favourite person. So what do you do? Being an author, you do what you do best. You right a book and set up The Trap for the killer to fall into.

I will admit that I was really excited about this book, the whole storyline and how they were going to do it, really intrigued me as I didn't know how they were going to do it. But after reading it, I was slightly disappointed and found certain parts becoming repetitive and dragging on, which is sad to say in a book that has less than 300 pages. A massive part of the book is actually sections, or chapters, of the other book that Linda wrote with the sole purpose of "trapping" the killer, which were meant to be based on true moments of her past and what happened, to an extent, or at least I believe. I think I actually preferred these chapters as you got more action, more story, more characters and maybe more thought.

Now I did promise no spoilers. When it comes to mystery books, films, TV shows and even games, anything you can think of, you can be guaranteed my mind is going to be trying to work stuff out. My mind was picking up everything that this book was dropping down, every little clue that could mislead you or not, or purposely put there, because the real killer might not be who you think it is. Well my mind created half a dozens killers, created reasons why each of these people might have to kill her and then then switched and changed my mind throughout the entire book.

I did find that while reading the book, I wasn't the biggest fan of the language and how it was written. I can't even explain or pin point exactly why, which sucks, because if I give a criticism then I want to be able explain why. I just remember thinking how the writing was really bad in certain parts. Maybe it was because I knew beforehand that this book was a translation book, being translated from German (I think) into English, which is why I took extra special notice of how it was all written because it was my first translation book and I was really intrigued. But once I got into the story and was fully emerged, it didn't bother me anymore, because all i cared about was finding out the truth.

What this book does, which is really good, is making you doubt everything that you are reading and being told. You, as a reader, have to use everything you are told and discover to find out if what you're reading is the truth. Can you trust it? Are you being lied to? Is it all a big story? It makes you question everything, so you don't know who to trust, so if you're really into the book, it can put you on edge and wonder, what else do we have to question. By dropping a few little things here and there and they're so affective. This guessing and not knowing and mysterious is what made me rate the book what I did. It added more of the excitement and psychological elements from the not knowing.

Overall, this book felt like it was lacking it something and I had really built it up and was really excited to read it beforehand. It seemed to drone on a bit too long, but it did have some really good parts, such as the inclusion of the characters story, which made a better story.

Raabe certainly has a way with words! She is an outstanding author. I enjoyed this story so much. The main character was complex and easy to sympathize with, the storyline was complex but easy to keep up with, and the twists were not disappointing. I enjoyed all of the parallel storylines and the fact that the main character was such an unreliable and, at times, erratic narrator. All of the elements of this story came together beautifully. It was hard to guess what actually happened for quite a while throughout the reading of this book, and the ending was not disappointing,

even though it was the original conclusion reached by the author in the first few chapters of the book. The way in which the murderer was able to cast doubt in the reader's mind, as well as Linda's, was astounding and beautifully done

. I can't wait to read more by Raabe in the future - perhaps in her native German!

Der zweite Thriller von Melanie Raabe, den ich gelesen habe, und im Gegensatz zu "Der Schatten", fand ich "Die Falle" richtig gut.
Die Spann ung zieht sich durch das ganze Buch und man kann sich in die Protagonostin hineinversetzen. Besonders ihre Selbsttätigen und ihre Verzweiflung sind einfach grandios beschrieben! Wer Psychothriller mag, sollte diesem Buch von ihr unbedingt eine Chance geben.

Kennt ihr das Gefühl, bei dem ihr ein Buch am liebsten an einem Abend durchlesen wollt und auf der anderen Seite jedes Kapitel herauszögert? So ging es mir mit „Die Falle“ von Melanie Raabe.

Das Buch ist ein Pageturner und hat mich tatsächlich so überrascht, dass ich direkt für andere Bücher der Autorin geschaut habe.

Aber nun zum Buch selbst: Die Story ist super aufgebaut, der Schreibstil so fließend, dass die Seiten nur so dahinfliegen und der Plot in irgendeiner Weise so irreführend, dass ich ständig meine Idee zum Täter geändert habe (was mir sonst selten passiert). Melanie Raabe hat das Buch so raffiniert aufgebaut, dass ich die Hauptfigur erst mochte, dann nicht mehr mochte, sie ätzend fand und dann? ... das müsst ihr wohl selbst rausfinden ;)

„Die Falle“ ist für mich nach langer Zeit endlich wieder ein Buch, bei dem ich alles mochte und von dem ich einfach nur mehr möchte!

Superspannend, ein Thriller mit einem winzigen Häppchen Liebe ohne zu übertreiben. Vielleicht macht genau das Realitätsnahe eben diesen Reiz aus.

Eine Frau, die ihr Haus seit vielen Jahren nicht mehr verlässt, sieht im Fernsehen einen Journalisten, in dem sie den Mörder ihrer Schwester zu erkennen meint.
Sie beschließt, ihm eine Falle zu stellen, und schreibt einen Roman basierend auf den Vorkommnissen von damals. Der Journalist beißt an und kommt für ein Interview vorbei. Aber kann sich die Frau, Linda, wirklich auf ihr Gedächtnis verlassen? Was ist damals in der Tatnacht wirklich passiert?

Insgesamt hat es mir gut gefallen. Zu Beginn habe ich mich schwer getan, Lindas Gefühle und ihre selbstgewählt Isolation zu verstehen; das fand ich nicht so gut /empathisch beschrieben.
Eigentlich bekommt man direkt mit, wie Linda Viktor, den vermeintlichen Mörder, im Fernsehen sieht und total aus der Bahn geworfen wird. Sie verlässt daraufhin mehrere Tage ihr Bett nicht mehr, ist vor Angst wie gelähmt.
Dann jedoch bereitet sie sich intensiv auf den Interviewtermin vor, macht eine Angsttherapie gegen Spinnen und übt mit einem Verhör-Experten, wie man Menschen ein Geständnis entlockt.
Das war schon sehr „hin und her“ vom Charakter her, aber gut.

So ging es mir tatsächlich allerdings auch mit der Handlung. Als Hörer soll man schwanken, ob und was real ist und ob Linda sich das mit Viktor nur einbildet oder Viktor wirklich der Täter ist.
Linda beschreibt mehrfach Ereignisse zunächst als real/als Aussage, die dann doch nur in ihrem Kopf passieren. Sie schiebt auch viele „Filme“ vor Angst, fühlt sich beobachtet und verfolgt und dann stimmt es hinterher doch nicht. Das macht sie sehr unzuverlässig als Zeugin und Protagonistin - und es machte es mir auch schwer, bei einer so hysterischen Person mitzufiebern und sie gedanklich zu unterstützen, weil sie geistig ziemlich durch war.

Es war dann aber doch gut geschrieben, einigermaßen spannend und eine plausible Auflösung. Ich wurde nur leider mit Linda als Protagonistin nicht so richtig warm. Aber besser als „Die Wahrheit“ von derselben Autorin.
