This Oedipus is not near as powerful as Sophocles’. I think the drawn out descriptions of the rites an the Chorus pulled down the power of this story.

Read Emily Wilson's translation. Wild story. Deserves further study, esp. in comparison to Sophocles.

Odd how the same story can seem so different a few centuries after Sophocles and Ted Hughes brings it to the 20th century and makes it all his own
