Book club book.

My Ratings (from our book club forms):
Characters - 4/5
Writing - 4/5
Plot Story - 5/5

General vibes from everyone:
- Liked it and easy to read
-
Don’t like Jo - felt like there’s a lack of empathy

- wish we had a bit deeper of some supporting characters
- Loved Maddie and her journey -
especially her doing therapy

- Liked the inclusions of texts, google searches and fonts throughout the written
- A few of us used some audio book for some chapters or whole book and really liked the narrator and their ability to change based on who they were narrating
-
Found some of the dating experiences rough to read as we were rooting for her and wanting her to have good experiences

-  Maddie seems like she's meant to be mature, as a caregiver, but comes across as innocent and oblivious to certain things

My notes:
- Liked it and loved Nia and Shu
- Really showed the journey of learning who you are and how to advocate and showcase that in multiple aspects of life

My Fave quotes:
- “I was so proud to be trusted - I didn’t know any better”
- “Even now none of my friends - helpfully I don’t have many…”

The characters in this book were so relatable, even though I don’t share the same culture as they do (Ghanaian or British), but the themes on friendship, family, and mental health are universal and Jessica George touches on them with such honesty, vulnerability, and realness. This book just seems to be just a chapter pulled right out of someone’s life and I love that not everything is exactly resolved or answered because that’s life - it just keeps going.
