I was wondering why I couldn’t get into this book, worried that I was just too tired to “get it,” but after seeing all the DNFs I felt secure in my sense that this book really WAS a slog.

putting this down (for now) at 32%, maybe i will come back to it at some point but i think when a book is making you feel like you need a break that isn’t a good sign
at 155 pages i am shocked at the lack of plot and how the book still feel like it is meandering through the world without clear purpose
also, the fantasy aspect is not mentioned at all really at this point which is fine if you’re taking your time to introduce that aspect but the characters and themes presented in this first 32% aren’t interesting enough to keep me hooked until that is fully explored
there are moments that are interesting which is what has kept me reading, waiting for those moments to be expanded on but after these moments the story completely shifts to another character/time/part of the world building, not to come back to these ideas (at least yet)
i would be willing to come back to this at some point but i also think when i do i will have forgotten everything that was introduced because i didn’t find the character or world that memorable

No hate but this wasn’t for me. Not a huge Fantasy person so it didn’t really keep my interest and was a bit of a slog for me to get through. If you like (historical) Fantasy you may appreciate this more. The writing style of this one was a bit tough as well.

I tried so hard to push through! I got over halfway and honestly had no idea what was happening, when SOMETHING was going to happen… Maybe the final half of the book was really amazing, but I will never know, and I’m happy with that.

I don't know what I was expecting going into this but I was somehow disappointed and surprised? The only other thing I've read by Owen King was Sleeping Beauties, which he wrote with his father Stephen King, so I was assuming it would be more King-esque. It was definitely a breath of fresh air that I didn't see any of his father's influence in this story despite it being a horror. The story was definitely confusing at some points but overall I enjoyed the atmosphere and the secret society we follow. I enjoyed the writing style but I didn't connect with any of the characters. Depsite everything, I enjoyed it overall and would definitely read more written by Owen!
Thank you to Scribner and NetGalley for providing me with an eBook copy to review.

I'm really not sure of what I think about this. It feels like it is trying very hard to be Dickensian and Weird Fiction at the same time, but it takes something like sixty percent of the way through for the story to decide what it wants to commit to whether it was just going to be esoteric or if it wanted to have a whole big plot to it. Like, the way the cats are woven in here, I really like. It just feels too long by half, and like we're watching the author's real time decision about what he's going to do with this manuscript. Just not for me, personally.

I liked this but felt like it could have been much better if some of the aspects were expanded on or more integral to the tale.

Thank you to Owen King, Scribner, and NetGalley for an eARC of The Curator!
I want to start off by saying this book just was not for me, but it could be the right book for another person! Unfortunately I DNFed this book at about 25%.
Overall, I thought the writing was well done from a descriptive standpoint. King's descriptions helped me to create incredibly vivid scenes in my head. That, however, is where my interest stopped.
The reader is dropped into the end of a revolution where a new government is taking over. This type of situation takes a lot of set up and I understand that, but with the plot of the book not even being hinted at within the first 25%, the story moved a bit too slow for me. I couldn't even really get a read on the characters.
I started and stopped this book so many times hoping I would get into it and I just couldn't.
I rated this book 3 stars because even though I didn't enjoy it, that doesn't mean someone else will!
