Suzuma did an incredible job tackling a forbidden relationship between brother and sister and how lines can be easily blurred, and ultimately, crossed when you find yourself acting more as parents of the household rather than siblings. Like Lochan and Maya, as a reader, you are not sure whether to root for or condemn these characters. By the end of the novel, I felt totally gut-punched, despite knowing there could not be a happy resolution. This didn't get a 5-star from me due to some pacing issues and time jumps that felt a bit disjointed, but I would absolute recommend this book to anyone who can overcome the trigger warnings attached.

ive always been aware of this book and have always just been curious about how a ya book with this content was traditionally published and so ive always sort of been curious to read it - upon reading i have determined that the answer is very hays code esque in like those involved in the taboo/ "immoral" behaviour have to come to a terrible end. anyways its honestly not really what i expected. its very explicit at times which i didnt feel comfortable reading bc they are teenagers and i did skip parts. i dont really know how to feel about this tbh but my nosiness has finally been sated

Bro I ate this thing up. How is this YA? This stuff was rough. Poor kids.

I found myself rooting for the two of them even though. yknow. You want them to be happy!!! The family needs to stay together!!! That pivotal moment the reader has been waiting for yet dreading is when shit hits the fan and it hurt so bad.

I really enjoyed the writing. Nothing really felt cringey (which is hard to find, personally, when reading romance novels, especially ones that depict sex) so big thanks for that.

I wish there was less focus on their physical desire as it got repetitive and instead a greater look into their emotional dependency due to parental abandonment. It was touched on a few times but I was vaguely dissatisfied.

Despite the page count, this was an incredibly quick read. A tragic, heart wrenching portrayal of traumatized teens searching for love and comfort amongst much more than they should be having to endure with their siblings. The author was able to write about a potentially disturbing subject matter in such a beautiful, empathetic way. I couldn't put this one down and my heart hurt for these two young people. Very well done.
