The Macmillian Readers version of the text is very reader-friendly yet informative (with the inclusion of snippets of the original text), and was able to capture the story and general vibe of a Shakespeare play with more accessible language. The story itself is interesting and straightforward with subplots, however in general I felt that this play is not as riveting as other plays (it bordered on predictable at times). Of course, I would like to believe that this version feels less captivating as it lacks the magic of Shakespeare's writing.

This is one of the worst plays I’ve ever read. It is essentially purely antisemitism and nothing else. Compared to Shakespeare’s other works it’s very disappointing.
