What a wild ride! This book is definitely a mind twister.

The beginning is slow. I knew the author was setting up the players aka the characters. With each character that was introduced, you wondered what roll they would play. The more I read, the sinister it got. There were a lot of suspects with motives that I couldn’t decide who was the villain. We meet Chloe. She’s one of many who will get some news that will change her life. She was a hard character to like. As a matter of fact, none of the characters were very likable. I kept thinking how awful they were. Towards the end, I was totally team Chloe. There are so many secrets and lies in this story, along with many twists and turns, that I gave up trying to figure out who was the bad guy and just enjoyed the crazy ride this book was.

As a whole, this book is suspenseful and entertaining. It will keep you on your toes till the very end! If you enjoy thrillers, you should consider adding this one to your TBR. I give this 3 stars.

This was a good thriller with an interesting plot and some good human connection. Some of the characters, however, relied on being stereotypes and women were abused as a plot point to show the personality of a male character.

Having read Barclay before, and enjoyed whatever it was of his that I'd read, I was looking forward to this. I'd read a couple of heavy books and needed a decent murder mystery for a change.

What a disappointment. I will gladly admit that I often am not able to figure out the "bad guy" in a mystery book and that then tends to be how I judge whether I'll like a mystery or not. If I can figure out who the bad guy is, especially if I can figure it out near the beginning, then I figure my rating of the book will be low.

That's how this book was for me. I picked out the bad guy pretty much from the get-go simply because they were such an evil caricature. And then the means by which the bad guy could be bad was simply preposterous.

Actually I found most of the characters in this book were caricatures - including our main protagonist, Miles.

This book ended up being a speed read for me. As I say, disappointing.

5 stars because it was one of those books I wanted to keep reading even when I knew I should go to bed. The premise: Billionaire Myles Cookson finds out he has Huntingtons disease, it’s going to cut his life short. He decides to find his biological children, fathered via a sperm bank 20+ years ago. However, someone is trying to make those children disappear. Miles and newly discovered daughter Chloe need to find out the truth. Meanwhile there’s a lot of other shady activities going on. Are they connected? It’s been years since I’ve read a Linwood Barclay and now I remember why I always enjoyed his books. I picked it up from the library after someone recommended to me.
