This is a quick read, and rather light-hearted. While I am not a religious person, I thought it was an interesting idea to to include Christianity/Catholicism in the book as the counter point to the magic system. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the story, and that it wasn't revealed until the very end of the book. Can't wait to start the 2nd book in the series!

I really enjoyed this, even if our protagonist didn't really ring true as the whole incompetent wizard thing.

At first glance a fairly superficial humorous fantasy novel set in a small pseudo-medieval kingdom, this has some really unexpected depth and grappling with morality and the obligations people have to one another. A favorite from my long-gone adolescence and honestly I think it's held up pretty well.

A reread of a book from childhood. It was pretty decent, although the fact that only about half of the secondary characters have names (the queen, the duchess, the corporal, etc.) is very odd.

Took a while to get through but one of the top fantasy novels I’ve read in a hot minute. Not a lot of world building but great characters, tension and plot.

A very light-hearted fantasy about a recent graduate from Wizard school, who's hired to rid the royal family of the tiny kingdom of Yurt of an Evil presence in the castle. Our Hero Daimbert is surprisingly likeable: well-intentioned, if uncertain of his own abilities -- and his philosophical clashes (and unexpected friendship) with the royal chaplain is a treat. Not especially deep, and somewhat predictable, but an enjoyable read.

Fun adventure, very light-hearted in tone, but also some good dramatic turns.
