Middle grade readers love this book and I can understand why. I've never read a book narrated by a dog! I'm not the target audience, but it was a good story and I enjoyed reading it.

Cute little middle grade ya novel with a dog named Bailey at the center.

The relationship between Bailey and Ethan is really great, but I felt the plot left a lot to be desired. The whole Todd thing seemed to progress and escalate too quickly: steal the dog, [long break with no interactions] break up Ethan and Hannah, throw a brick, poison the dog, break in and light the house of fire using gasoline. Um...what!? The pacing felt really off for this character and the fire at the end seemed to be shoe-horned in so something catastrophic could happen to Ethan. It felt so inauthentic I won't use it again.

I somehow felt like reading this book last summer, but then I got COVID when I was about to finish it. This story is based on the real “A Dog’s Purpose” book for adults, and some of the things you might find in here are exactly what you would be reading in the original story. I heard some people say they didn’t enjoy this one too much, but I kind of liked it.

My daughter received this as a free book from the library. She loves any book having to do with dogs, especially if its told from the dogs point of view. She was almost 7 when she read this one, and she loved it! She then wanted us to read it at bedtime. We did and I was impressed with it as well. We loved reading about a dog so devoted to his boy. We will definitely pick up the others by this author!

It was pretty good, I personally don't like the fact how the author starts every book basically the same. Overall decent.

Golden retrievers are one of my favourite dogs and Bailey is super cute in this book.
He's a very loveable dog and I loved reading from his perspective.
The book is adorable and for the most part a light hearted read where we follow this dog as he meets his boy. Which my favourite thing Bailey does is Ethan is his boy. He has to protect Ethan.
There bond is cute. Please don't tally up how many times I say cute. That's what it is! A cute book!
It does get more tense at the end I will say so if you're getting it for your dog loving kid make sure you check the warnings and choose for yourself if you're kid would be okay with it. Here's a spoiler for anyone curious:Ethan is friends with a troubled kid named Todd who always seems to have an attraction to fire. At the end of the book after Ethan gets in a fight with him Todd sets Ethans house on fire. Ethan is in said house and has to jump out of his window with Bailey very nervous for his boy. Todd also gets bit by Bailey due to setting the fire.
I read this when I was younger and was okay with it but I read paranormal stories as a kid. All kids are different.
