Great Read
This was an enjoyable read. This is the first book of A Ground Rules Mystery series. It is a cozy mystery that takes place in Portland, Oregon. This book introduces us to our main character, Sage Caplin, who is a co-owner of a coffee cart and roasting company with her friend, Harley. In this book, someone is murdered in front of the coffee cart. Sage owns. I thought the story was great. The plot was interesting. I thought that the characters were great. I thought Sage was a great main character. She has a mother, who is on the run and a father, who is a police officer. I thought she was smart, witty, and unique. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense. I am glad that I finally got to read this book. I cannot wait for book 2 and more Emmeline Duncan books. Double Shot Death, here I come. Overall, a great read.

This is a fun cozy mystery set in Portland, OR. The main character's mother is a grifter. Her father is a cop. She has just started a coffee business with a friend that includes a food truck when she finds a local developer murdered outside her food cart. The detective in charge, not surprisingly, figures she's the killer, so of course, she has to find the real murderer.
It was enjoyable enough that I'll likely read more in the series.

The protagonist didn’t have much agency when it came to investigating who was the killer. And I felt like they could have cut out some filler sentences. It didn’t feel like the story was progressing at all.

Fresh Brewed Murder has all the makings of a classic cozy mystery: an amateur sleuth forced to solve a murder case through her connections as a newcomer in a small community, while involved in a dreamy, cozy business (be it a coffee shop, a bakery, a book/plant/craft shop).
I am aware that a “cozy murder mystery” might seem like an oxymoron (afterall, how can murder be cozy?), but it is the human connection rather than the cold hard facts of the case that drive this mystery to a somewhat satisfying conclusion. With abundant descriptions of delicious food and drinks as well as the feeling that everything will be tied up in a neat little bow by the end removes the uncomfortable tension from the murder aspect, making this a lighter summer read in my opinion. Unfortunately, I found the characters a little cringy and the ending way too rushed, but it was still enjoyable as I listened to the audiobook on the beach. Now, how many murder-related books can you say that about?
