Fresh Brewed Murder has all the makings of a classic cozy mystery: an amateur sleuth forced to solve a murder case through her connections as a newcomer in a small community, while involved in a dreamy, cozy business (be it a coffee shop, a bakery, a book/plant/craft shop).
I am aware that a “cozy murder mystery” might seem like an oxymoron (afterall, how can murder be cozy?), but it is the human connection rather than the cold hard facts of the case that drive this mystery to a somewhat satisfying conclusion. With abundant descriptions of delicious food and drinks as well as the feeling that everything will be tied up in a neat little bow by the end removes the uncomfortable tension from the murder aspect, making this a lighter summer read in my opinion. Unfortunately, I found the characters a little cringy and the ending way too rushed, but it was still enjoyable as I listened to the audiobook on the beach. Now, how many murder-related books can you say that about?
