Dang I love Martin Amis. Re-read this one in honor of the film version coming out. Not so sure the film was all that well cast, but the book is still highly enjoyable.
I liked the voice at first, then I realized there was barely a plot and no interesting characters. An irritating read.
Could not read this. Worst book I’ve ever attempted- including Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, which is really saying something.
This book made me feel like I needed to take a shower everytime I read it. I don't want to accuse Amis of misogyny (and why bother since so many others already have) but his characters are certainly sch woman haters that prolonged exposure leaves one feeling pretty grubby.
This isn't to say that I didn't like the book.

Rubbish book. Martin Amis uses language well, but the book is so bleak with awful characters. The biggest problem is that he clearly can't write about women - no woman could or would have created Nicola Six. There's no understanding of violence against women or empathy for the female characters.
Three stars? Five? I don't know--I found this book kind of baffling! Full review here: http://www.rebeccarosenblum.com/2011/07/22/rose-coloured-reviews-london-fields-by-martin-amis/
I got as far as page 100. The characters didn't engage me and I saw no sign of the plot that sounded so good in the reviews. He's a clever writer but I guess that wasn't enough to hold me.
