Probably the strongest of all the Expanded Universe books I’ve read thus far. I felt like this had more twists and turns than in the other standard Star Wars lines.

Genuinely very good and sadly de-canonised. It's one of a few expanded universe books that didn't go over the top with it's character design, and painted it's environment well. Only real negative with Karpyshy is the Revan worship.

5/5
Peace is a lie. There is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.
This was excellent! As someone who has still barely tread the waters of the Star Wars EU, this one honestly exceeded my high expectations. I went into Path of Destruction after discovering that many fans rated this novel, and the entire Darth Bane trilogy, very highly and learning that its generally considered a popular favorite among the fandom. They were right, because I was hooked from the start.
This is also the reason there can be only one Dark Lord. The Sith must be ruled by a single leader: the very embodiment of the strength and power of the dark side. If the leader grows weak, another must rise to seize the mantle. The strong rule; the weak are meant to serve. This is the way it must be.
Path of Destruction is absolutely packed with lore. This told such a compelling story, so much of it from the perspective of the Sith, that I never have experienced in the Star Wars universe. Darth Bane instantly became one of the most interesting characters in this series. His origins, the training, his personal odyssey to find the true power of the dark side of the Force, and his sheer determination to change the ways of the Sith forever made for a fascinating character journey.
Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it. The Rule of Two.
I also listened to this while reading along, and it was extremely immersive. It seems as though many of the audio books for Star Wars are done this way. Beyond just narration, which is superbly done by Jonathan Davis, you get an atmospheric sound filled with classic Star Wars sound effects and the occasional soundtrack. I think for some audio books this would prove to be a little distracting, but it works so well for something like Star Wars. There is a particular lightsaber duel about 3/4 into this novel that is just exhilarating from start to finish, and the audio added another layer to this incredible scene.
This is a must read for any Star Wars fan who desires a unique look into the Sith. Darth Bane is a complex character that I greatly look forward to reading more of. I'll absolutely be reading/listening to the rest of this trilogy!

It begins the story of the evolution of the Sith from an order of many to an order based on two individuals at a time. I thought the writing was engaging.
Officially licensed fan fiction, revered by fans. If this is among the best, I'd hate to see the worst...
