Ageism, misogyny for starters.
This would have been a lovely, little beach book had the writer not clobbered us over the head, over and over with the made up conflict of her female protagonist’s age in comparison to her love interest. For the love of Pete why was this a big deal? If their ages were reversed, no one would even blink! This really ruined the whole book for me as every character seemed to take issue with the age issue except the love interest.

I’m sure there’s some sort of redemptive arch for these obnoxious characters, but it just wasn’t worth it to slog through to get there.

I first discovered Nancy Thayer when I Googled "authors similar to Elin Hilderbrand." I'm so glad I did, because I've now read everything she has ever written.
I really liked this book - it was an easy, breezy summer read with a happy ending that made me smile.
One thing - I really disliked the Ryder character and felt that his relationship with Juliet was forced and didn't really make a lot of sense. If I were her, I would have told him to buzz off, but that's just me.

Feel-good story based in picturesque Nantucket. New relationships, new life paths, and and new family adventures.

Silly, frivolous book with a predictable plot and not much substance. Definitely a feel good book but not I’m an interesting way. I kept waiting for something surprising to happen but it never did.

(Abandoned) I had to abandon this book after just the first chapter because I could feel a physical depression descend upon me. Those first few pages described a relationship from the first meeting until a bitter divorce many years later and it felt like Thayer was throwing tons of information at you to build a back story that I'm not even sure was needed, from reading the description of the book. I hated that the husband was such a jerk, expecting a woman to "let him do what he wants," and that the wife's best friend encouraged her to resign to the fact that this was how her relationship was going to be, so she'd better stop complaining. There were no redeeming qualities to this first chapter that would have made me want to continue on and read any portion that followed. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

If you’re looking for a book with one-dimensional characters, where everything is good, and details like “she made an omelette with cheddar and chives” are plot highlights, this piece of literary oatmeal is for you.

It is always a pleasure to read a Nancy Thayer summer Nantucket story, and this one is definitely appealing. Lisa’s husband left her and her two kids, leaving her alone to figure out her next steps. Her daughter, Juliet, returns home after a failed romance, even though she is a successful career woman. Theo, her surfer son, also returns to Nantucket, complicating a new relationship Lisa formed with Mack. The setting of Nantucket and the lives of these protagonists combine for another great summer beach read; don’t miss it. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
