Reading this book didn't just plunge me into a wintery, cold and unforgiving atmosphere. It felt like the act of reading itself had to be done through a surface of thick ice because the straightforward prose at the surface concealed the metaphors and interpretation layers hidden beneath the frozen surface.
First time discovering Vesaas' masterful writing but definitely not the last.
