I enjoyed this novel, but my interest in the series is winding down as the books depart more from the original set-up and become more like thrillers. I think the absorbing parts of these series are her descriptions of Brennan’s work and of the culture of Montreal.

LOVE all the Tempe books - I started reading them a few years ago, and then started watching Bones, which is loosely based on these books. I recommend the books and the show!

I liked this addition to the series ... nice mystery component, nice human component, nice historical component and talked about some of the great work being done to bring individuals who have died in conflict home to their families.

I enjoy these books and I love the level of detail Reichs provides. I always walk away with some little factoid that's good for trivia night or random conversation. Some of the interaction with the two daughters was annoying, primarily because the two daughters can be annoying.

About the Book: A man who has been dead and buried – reappears. Still dead. Just not buried. His father refuses to provide DNA to test which of the remains is his actual son, so Brennan has no choice but follow the life until death. And, knowing her luck, ends up in crosshairs of a vicious gang, alongside her daughter…

My Opinion: Not too bad. Easy read when in need for some down time. Undemanding simple crime / thriller plot, mediocre characters that’ll get forgotten until the next book. Not going to become a classic. And yet it’s really not a bad thing. It’s good to have books that provide reprieve.

Anther fun read from Kathy Reichs in the Temperance Brennan series. Tempe is once again in Montreal working for the coroner’s office helping to identify the remains of a man found drowned in a lake. When his fingerprints identify him as a soldier long thought dead and buried during the Vietnam War, Tempe is off to her second home, North Carolina, to identify who was buried in the grave 40 years before. Tempe believes her job is done but when the remains travel to Hawaii to the military base tasked with identifying POW and MIA remains, she’s on the plane to help break the case. With her daughter along for a little rest and recovery of her own, Tempe works with longtime friends and new colleagues to identify who really was buried in North Carolina and who was killed in Montreal. But someone is hiding a long dead secret and isn’t ready for Tempe to be digging in to the past. Fun read. I really enjoy that not only am I enjoying a fun read, I swear I’m learning something new with every book.
