This felt emotionally similar to “Pandemonium”, since Rachel is also experiencing depression, but with a less eloquent execution.

Warning-Spoilers!
Let me start off by saying that while I did enjoy this book, it had me the most frustrated I have been with a book in a long time.
There is just no end to all if it. One thing happened l and another immediately follows. I felt like it became very confusing at times and a lot if the action didn't grip me to keep on reading the book.
A lot of the characters were starting to get on my nerves as well. I love Logan McEntire to death but if he says something like "it makes me feel as though I have swallowed an unbalanced chemical formula" again I might have a meltdown. Another thing I found to be getting old is that Rachel keeps convincing herself that she is broken. The entire book, in my mind I was saying that Rachel could get through it cause for a while she still seemed fine. I felt like we could see why she would be broken but we don't really get to see her being broken. Once she does open up to Quinn somewhat the next page she is saying that she is broken again. At the end, she finally believes in her abilities to pull through. By that point I was very pleased to she that she was going to push through. But throughout the book she made me feel very frustrated.
One thing that I did really like was the romance in this book. The way Logan was jealous of Quinn just made me see how much he really does care and I loved how they both have each other when things go wrong. I wish that they had more interaction/ conversation in this book as well as more 1 on 1 time but I guess we will see more of it in the third book.
I am waiting to see how everything will be resolved in the next book because there is so much going on. It worries me that it won't all be addressed between Ian and the Commander. I really think that this book was good overall. The plot has some twist that I didn't really expect. At the same time I really could see why the book was called Deception and I really enjoyed the mystery of it all.
I would recommend the series to someone who likes books similar to Graceling.

This was slow going in ways that I didn't anticipate given the pacing of Defiance. Big pick up but lacking the quiet tenderness that added so much to the first book. A book two meant to get us to the third?

Post apocalyptic dystopian young adult romance with strong female lead cliche, but it strings you along pretty well.

We all know that sometimes the second book in a trilogy can be disappointing. It's like that awkward stage we all go through, a necessity but not all that much fun. Thankfully, Deception is NOT one of those sequels. If anything, Deception is better than Defiance. And considering how much I loved Defiance, that's saying a lot.

Deception takes the action, adventure, and romance from the first book to a whole new level. It is a non-stop ride and I loved every second of it!

p.s.- Chapter 40 is brutal. Have a box of tissue ready.

It really dragged for the first 2 thirds of the book but the pace really picked up for the last 3rd with a lot of questions answered and I am keen to see what happens next & how everything is gonna be resolved.

SpoilerI did guess the baddie from the get go though & that was disappointing :(

Deception is the second book in the Defiance trilogy. The story follows 16 year old Rachel Adams. Her father and uncle are both dead and she is set on avenging them. Her boyfriend, Logan McEntire, is leading a group of survivors from their town of Baalboden in search of a safe city to call home after their town is destroyed. The group has problems on the trip and believes someone from their group has betrayed them.

I was so excited to see what happened in next Rachel’s and Logan’s story. The author does an excellent job of weaving together both Rachel’s and Logan’s POVs. This book also had me crying at several different points.
4.5 out of 5 stars!
