The art is lovely! But the text is a little too literal/on the nose to work for me.

"In that moment you will realize you don't have to keep looking for happiness...it was always there. Recognize it and treasure it because, in the end, Happiness begins with you."

Story teaches us to be more in touch with our feeling of happiness and know that we can't always be happy, but that happiness comes from within us.

Eva Eland makes "happiness" an object that you feel, but don't always understand. It makes for an interesting journey discovering all the things it is and how sometimes it's not around. That's the book. Describing happiness. I don't agree with all the descriptions. I think a child would enjoy this book. I wouldn't let them think happiness hides from someone. I don't think you have to look for it as the child does in this book. That has lead many kids and adults along a fruitless path. I would have preferred Eva saying "ice cream makes me happy" rather than illustrating it with text saying "that it goes by different names".

  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

A really great picture book about searching for happiness and how to manage and understand the emotions that can come with this journey.

Oh my goodness, so cute. I didn’t think this could top Sadness, but I think it did. Beautiful, bright illustrations really combines well with the poetic and relatable text. Such a sweet story for kids with anxiety or trouble identifying feelings.
