I feel like I really enjoyed this book because I grew up watching the movie my entire life. It was really interesting seeing the written version go more in depth and sort of answer certain questions I initially had about the story. Although I'm not sure if it's because of the translation or if it's just the authors writing style but the sentences felt sort of short? I'm not sure if it's just a personal thing but at first it was kind of hard to follow along. I fear if I didn't already have such a deep love for the story I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did because of the writing I mentioned but that's just personal. I still feel it is a fun story to read tho!

3.5, really. It wasn't what I expected, though that's not a bad thing. The writing was occasionally trite, as if he was trying too hard to be poetic. To be fair, that could be the fault of translation.

This little novella really surprised me! I enjoyed the darkly whimsical folklore-ish story. It was made even better by the knowledge that it was written by the lead singer of one of my favorite French bands that I used to listen to when I lived in France! Apparently this was turned into an animated film made in conjunction with Luc Besson, which makes so much sense. I need to watch it now!

Cute story that read like a Wes Anderson movie.

Another story in which I was vaguely aggravated by the main character. The language used in this novel was what stood out in this novel. But it was also too flowery at times. It is worth mentioning that Malzieu belongs to a band for which he also wrote an album revolving around this story. I believe I shall check it out sometime.

Hum -

The longest 150 pages of my life!

This is not the book for me. I found it extraordinarily boring and couldn't wait to finish it. The story didn't engage me, I didn't empathize with the characters (in fact I didn't like them at all), and although I understood the intent and the moral, I still (honestly) didn't care.
