Really enjoyed it! It's a small book but it's an amazing world and very Tim Burton like :)

I have so much heartache in my life, only to absorb more from this story has been cruel. THE ENTIRE BOOK I was pulling for Jack and for him to not get the girl... I...I am at a real loss for words. It makes me want to cry for their pain and mine. I need a good book where the guy does get the girl in the end. A dose of fiction instead of all these non-fiction tragic love lost stories.

I bought this book some time ago for another bookcrosser as a birthday present, but I have also been interested in this for many years (well, about four) so I read it first. The Boy With the Cuckoo-Clock Heart is a very easy to read book. At the same time light and heartbreaking. Or maybe bittersweet is the right word. The ending was a bit surprising, but not in a bad way.

I wish the book were as good as its cover or the premise would have you believe. Sadly, I found the characters rather flat, and for every beautifully done piece of imagery there's a clumsy or overwrought piece not far away. There's even the occasional image which is far too modern and therefore breaks the spell of the setting itself. I imagine it wasn't the easiest thing to translate so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but I found myself wanting to like it more than I actually did, and as most of it has since slipped from memory, it makes it difficult to recommend.
