All in all, quite thought provoking in regards to humanity’s first interactions with extraterrestrial life and what it looks like. The ending makes sense but I can’t say it’s what I wanted nor expected;

I expected our team of characters to save the day, not have the solution essentially be “It worked out because *Science*”

. There were also some bits that I likened to Jules Verne in his “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” where he was more adamant about showing off his knowledge of marine life as opposed to writing a half-decent plot; only instead of fish and sea mammals, Crichton breaks from the story with “As a renowned biologist once said…” and elaborates on that point to tie it somewhat back to the plot, but it all seems superfluous and like he was just trying to hit the word count.

Great ideas, concepts and (somewhat outdated) science but the story itself isnt that thrilling. Also a really unsatisfying sudden ending.

Impressive, especially for its age. The research that went into it, the speculation, all good stuff.

There were some plot holes, but it was mostly fine.

Least favorite thing was the false sense of urgency even toward the end

when you realized that it wasn't urgent at all actually.
