The main character is so whiney and poor me, no one likes me... the plot of this was too fluffy for me, I just don't care what happens to any of these people.

On paper, Zoe Zeng has made it in New York’s fashion world. After a string of unpaid internships, she is now a fashion columnist at Chic, lives in a quaint apartment in Manhattan, and gets invited to exclusive industry events.
But life in New York City is not as chic as Zoe imagined. Her editor wants her to censor her opinions to please the big brands; she shares her “quaint” (read: small) apartment with three roommates who never let her store kimchi in the fridge; and how is she supposed to afford the designer clothes expected for those parties on her meager salary?
Then one day, Zoe receives a job offer at FitPick, an app startup based in Silicon Valley. The tech salary and office perks are sweet, but moving across the country and switching to a totally new industry? Not so much. However, with her current career at a dead end, Zoe accepts the offer and swaps high fashion for high tech, haute couture for HTML. But she soon realizes that in an industry claiming to change the world for the better, not everyone’s intentions are pure. With an eight-figure investment on the line, Zoe must find a way to revamp FitPick’s image despite Silicon Valley’s elitism and her icy colleagues. Or the company’s future will go up in smoke—and hers with it.
This coming of age story was really sweet and cute. The book offered an interesting look behind the scenes of a tech start up. I loved that it was not fully a romance and more of Zoe focusing on herself and coming to terms with who she really is. I also loved all the female friendship and just love seeing women supporting women. Zoe is one of those characters that I think any female can related to. The blend of her fashion styles with fast-paced tech marketing created lots of fun moments. Zhao really brought up one of the biggest issue is gender inequality in the tech business. It is really mainly a male dominated field and when they make a mistake, everything is fine, but when a female does it is just completely different. It really highlighted the difficulties women face in male dominated industries. I definitely found myself rooting for Zoe in her new career and wanted her to succeed. Highly recommend giving this one a shot and cannot wait to read The Fraud Squad.

i loved the diversity and push for inclusivity in fashion and that topic but most of the time the character was so whiney and woe its me and complaining about work that made u forget what the plot was.

I liked the plot, but I felt like the characters weren’t really fleshed out. There wasn’t a lot of believable build up to the whole “romance,” and the whole “let me offer you a VP job on the spot” thing was weird and I had a hard time believing it all. It just felt like it was missing some depth.
