Loved her in Batgirl so I thought I'd give this a go. The story and art style started off great then it seems to slow to a snail's pace with the story feeling so drawn out and confused it's hard to keep caring, add to that after the first few it started to become tricky to tell who was who in any given panel . Overall I was disappointed

This is a four star indie book slapped with a DC label and starring a character who simply doesn't exist outside this book. Apart from wearing fishnets, having a sonic scream, and having lost their dojo in Fletcher's tepid [b:Batgirl, Volume 1: Batgirl of Burnside|23164970|Batgirl, Volume 1 Batgirl of Burnside|Cameron Stewart|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1499091545l/23164970._SY75_.jpg|42710991], Black Canary is completely divorced from every other title she's ever appeared in.
That's a bummer because this book is leaps and bounds better than Batgirl. The story and the character's interactions are fun and intriguing. They just don't make sense in the DCU. It's like the best Lobo books: sure, they're fun but I don't buy him existing in the same universe as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, or even Plastic Man.

It's a bold experiment, and if other books had taken similar risks, it might have worked.

I understand why some people aboslutely love this. I did it enjoy it more than some of the dreary Batbooks of the era, and, again, it's a vast improvement over The Batgirl Of Burnside. But I would have a hard time justifying putting this in a DC chronology.

This was just... not good. The art wasn't my style, the story was weird and boring... I love Black Canary, but this book just did not resonate with me in the least.

I'm not sure who this book is for or about but it certainly isn't a Black Canary book. Literally could have been a unused Josie And The Pussycats story. Reading it frustrated me. Why tell a tale showcasing Dinah by removing every aspect of Dinah? The art was sketchy but serviceable but would have been better served on another title. Overall, a huge miss for me.

I wanted to love this, and I wish I could justify ranking it higher. The character design and artwork are really neat, but there was something that just didn't translate for me. I also found the story jumping around a lot, and since I had anticipated a more gentle introduction into a rebooted character, I found myself confused at times. Overall though, I thought it was really cool, just not necessarily something I would have spent money on to add to my collection rather than borrow from a friend or the library. I'm glad I read it and experienced it, but I wish it had been more cohesive.

I liked the concept and the art, but the story and characters didn't seem fully flushed out. More telling than showing.

3.5 stars I thought the story was intriguing although some parts were definitely hard for me to follow. I liked the art style, it was very colorful and fun to look at. I'm just glad that now I don't feel as fake having a Black Canary poster hanging in my dorm since I've read this comic.

Black Canary is out of the superhero game and full-force into the rock scene. Just as she and her band are really starting to hit their groove, strange creatures from another reality begin to wreak havoc at the Black Canary rock shows. They're looking to grab the silent bass player, but she's just a kid. In her pursuit to protect her bassist and the rest of the band, Dinah Lance brushes off her superhero skills and begins to teach the others to fight. But there's more than just strange creatures hunting them. Soon Dinah is faced with an old love and an old enemy. Amanda Waller and ARGUS are on the prowl and things may not end well.
First of all, I've got to say I'm not a huge fan of the artwork at the beginning (issue #1) of the book. I think too many comic books are trying to be like Sin City and reveal their darker side and it's becoming overdone. The other issues were better, but still a little angular for my tastes.
The storyline was pretty good. Once again I was left wondering what was canon and what was updated for a younger audience. In this version, BC got her powerful voice from ARGUS scientists doing crazy experiments. She also has a random ex-husband (or lover...I wasn't super clear on that one) whom I've never heard of before in either comics or the Arrow universe that is currently playing. I did like how the story sort of circled around so that the cause and effect of events almost became effect and cause.
While it was an interesting storyline, it didn't really have me rushing to learn more via volume two. I may still read it at some point, but for now, it's firmly on the back burner.
