This book definitely surprised me. I went in with some negative thought, ended up really getting a lot more out of than I thought I would. It wasn't a traditional novel obviously but I didn't expect it to be an actual dictionary! That being said, I highlighted at least half of this book with the entries that really resonated with me. I love when I book surprises me and this one really did.

Wow. This was a collection of made up words (all words are made up, technically), but these are words are SO hyper-specific to certain situations that it’s not something you’ve ever stopped to think about. But here they are…gathered in a book. Which means meaning those experiences/feelings are not so unique but actually a common thread between all of us. Our circumstances might be different, but boyyy we are all deeply connected.
This book both comforted me and threw me into existential crisis.
A beautiful, BEAUTIFUL book. I chunked it out right the whole year but I think it will be my favorite for the year.
Pick this one up, you must.

This book wasn’t as relatable for me as it seems to have been for other folks and that’s fine. I loved the etymologies! I totally took some pictures of some entries in this dictionary and sent them to share with other people. The way this dictionary seems to be inherently connective is fascinating, and echoes the author’s purpose for it. That said, I could not relate to the author’s projection of how time works and [most of] the fundamentals of shared human existence. Maybe some of them, but not all. A dictionary of sorrows is kind of a downer by default, but I often found myself asking myself, ‘do people really see themselves/each other/the world/time that way?’
