It was a cute story but it just didn’t really work for me. I didn’t feel like the romance was developed enough - the main characters basically go from hating each other to being deeply in love with each other over the course of a few chapters without much to explain the change. I would have enjoyed more development of their backstory or more pining, perhaps.

I wanted to love this book, I really did. But it just felt like I couldn’t get invested. They kind of just like magically got together. There was no build up, no tension, no nothing. Like I just wish we got to see more longing and more build up to the relationship, especially considering how well it was done in the 2 previous books. I also didn’t really get the whole conflict with Emmy and Teddy. Like it just felt like a lack of communication. Also I stand on the fact that Emmy made a correct assumption based on prior behaviour (like she didn’t pull it out of no where) when she asked if Teddy wanted a relationship.

“I want to sit on this porch with you thirty years from now and look up at the sky and wonder what I did to deserve a life this good.”

Oh Lyla you’ve done it again. These books are peak escapism; I love being at Rebel Blue Ranch so much. First we had brother’s best friend and now we have best friend’s brother?? What more can I ask from a series, honestly?

Lost & Lassoed is the third installment in the Rebel Blue Ranch series. It follows Emmy’s grumpy older brother, Gus, and Emmy’s best friend, Teddy. Teddy finds herself out of a job unexpectedly and agrees to help out Gus with childcare for his daughter Riley a few days a week. And did I mention, Gus and Teddy hate each other’s guts??

Oh I just adore Teddy Anderson; how I love a fierce, feisty FMC. This is certainly in the running for my favorite in the series. If I had to complain about anything I’d say the romance is a little fast/instant for my taste and some parts are a little cringey/wattpad-y. That said I really did love this from start to finish. The romance is delicious. The friendship between Emmy and Teddy is so beautiful and relatable. I can completely understand all the complex feelings Teddy describes in regards to her feeling left out and left behind. The relationship between Teddy and her dad Hank really tugs at your heart strings. The relationship between Teddy and Riley is so damn cute.

Such a sweet story. I will be eagerly awaiting the release of Wild & Wrangled! And yet again, these book covers are ✨everything✨.

“Luke is my fiancé, my partner, my everything. But you're my soulmate, Teddy Andersen, and I'm the luckiest girl in the world because of it.”

i loved this! each book truly gets better and better. i love that Sage always works in representation with her characters that make them feel so innately human and relatable. Teddy's fear of losing her sense of self while everyone around her that she loves seems to need her less and Gus's determination to always be able to bring it all all the time really struck a chord with me.

okay, spoilers ahead that don't necessarily give much away, but really sold me on this book.

  1. when Gus was depicted
reading his daughter's books before he read them to her so he could be sure that he didn't struggle with reading them out loud bc of his dyslexia was such a tender moment.
    i melted!!!
  2. there is a moment that a minor character
essentially food shames Gus's kid and he shuts it down fast (there are no good/bad foods, just food). to write a character that doesn't perpetuate harmful language around foods, especially for a child, is so important for people to read and have normalized!!!

  3. when Teddy is on her period,
i noticed that Sage chose to use the term "people with uteruses"
and this is what we mean when we say reading is political!!! even romance!!

to prioritize language like this in a cowboy romance is so impactful and it gave me so much joy to see these examples.

and finally, this spicy scene will live RENT FREE in my head forever!

"...I want you to go down on me until I come, and then I want you to kiss me, so I can have a taste."

Gus smiled at me again, then flipped onto his back. "And I want you to ride my face. So I think we can both get what we want here."

"August Ryder," I breathed as I sat up. "Are you offering me a mustache ride?"

Gus smoothed two of his fingers over his mustache and said, "Saddle up, baby."

I don't know how I'm going to handle the end of this series that has come to mean so much to me. Lyla Sage is unmatched when it comes to capturing 20 something emotions/feelings. I high key relate so much to Teddy's struggle with feeling left behind while all her friends are moving on to the next thing in life. Teddy is such a fun character too. She's loud, a bit unpredictable, hot as hell, and not afraid to tell you how it is. She's honestly Gus' "worst nightmare," because he loves having a plan. But as always sometimes the best things in life are unexpected.

My favorite part of L&L isn't the off the charts chemistry and smut (though it's amazing as usual for Lyla Sage), it's actually the soft moments as Teddy and Gus get to know each other beyond their pre-existing best friend's brother relationship. Gus gets to see just how much Teddy cares for everyone around her (especially Riley) and Teddy gets to be the one who he lets his walls down with. They're just so cute y'all!!!

Lost and Lassoed is not just a romantic love story; it's one of familial love between parents and their kids and platonic love between two best friends. I think my favorite thing about the Rebel Blue Ranch series is that every book mentions how Teddy and Emmy are soulmates. I've been lucky enough to find the other half of my platonic heart in my best friend, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have been eagerly awaiting Gus and Teddy’s story and, as expected, I devoured this book!

Gus’ grumpy cowboy vibes were everything. Just call me ‘Teddy, baby’ 🥵🥵

I really liked that this story had some more tension and conflict compared to the first two

Bring on Cam and Dusty!!

Lyla!! How dare you have me crying throughout this book while on a plane. Right from the first page I knew this book would be a favorite of the year. I connected with both Gus and Teddy (in different way) so much that it hurt. This book was everything I had hoped for and more. I have been dying for Gus and Teddy’s story since the beginning of Done and Dusted. Their chemistry was electric in spite of but also because of their snappy banter. Reading their relationship evolve and develop into this deep love felt like two puzzles pieces clicking into place. They just saw each other in ways that the rest of the world didn’t. I loved that they were that safe space for each other, that they felt they could let someone else take care of them, help them. Aside from their love story, this book is once again a love letter to families (and fabulous dads)- found and biological, how they blend into something beautiful. This book is perfection, everyone needs to pick up a copy.
