Was hoping for something alligned with "we used to live here" . Definitely not that.

I somehow didn't realize this was a romance, which isn't normally my cup of tea, but I ended up really liking this little read! It packed a surprisingly robust amount of mystery and twists in a short 248 pages. It kept my attention, had a well-planned and winding plot, and I loved the ending. Perfect for those looking for a quick spicy thriller that unfurls into a feel-good mystery.

I usually enjoy Kiersten Modglin's books because they are always twisty and short enough to keep my attention. This one, I was ready for it to end. Which says a lot because the audiobook is just under 6 hours. Maybe it was because I did listen to the audiobook instead of reading it. The narrator was fine but it was a very dramatic reading. I suppose that was on theme with the book.
Not my favorite and wouldn't be the first book I'd recommend by this author.

Bridget arrives at her estranged grandmother’s estate, only to find that it has been left to both her and the housemaid’s son, Cole, that she can’t stand. Both the house and her grandmother, Vera Bitter, have secrets. They are revealed in the form of numbered letters.
I wanted a good “mysterious old house” kind of book, and in many ways I got it. I didn’t hate Bridget, she’s almost believable. Unfortunately the plot isn’t and it’s made worse by being utterly predictable. The best thing about this book is that it is short.

You’re raised by your grandmother after the death of your parents to only be kicked out after your high school graduation. You spend years wondering why your grandmother treated you that way and question what you did wrong. Now, your grandmother is dead and she left you her house, that is filled with secrets, secrets you would’ve never imagined. By the end of all the secrets will you be healed or still stuck on “why”. Bridget was dealt an undeserving hand, one where even now with the secrets revealed, she still is left without closure but with the knowledge that her grandmother did love her, in the capacity she was able do so.

Thank you so much NetGalley for the ARC.
Bitter house holds so many secrets, will Bridget discover them all? Bridget is brought back to the Bitter house after the passing of her Vera Bitter passes away. Bridge has not been back to the house since her grandma kicked her out years ago without a word of reason. Now that the house is left to Bridget she is about to go on a wild ride of dark secrets about Bitter house. To make matter worse she will have to do some with her childhood enemy.
Kiersten blew me away with this book. I went into this story blind. I did not want to know what exactly it was about and to start to form my own opinion. I am so glad I did that! This book takes off and doesn't ever stop! There is twist and turns left and right! The way she gets ahold of you and doesn't let you go is a whirlwind of emotions. I gasped, I cried, I cheered and I was in disbelief.
If you want a thrilling story that you aren't sure what else could possibly happen! Pick up this book!

This was okay, mildly intriguing, but easily predictable and unoriginal. I predicted every step. Listening to it play out was mildly entertaining—at least while I was working and doing chores.
Forced proximity.
Mystery.
So much bickering
