The Kingdom Art Brought Me To Tears

This was an amazing book!

As the new Zelda game just recently launched - I thought I would do some learning about the art and artifacts that made up the series.

This was such an impressive book.

I love love love video game art books.

This was splendid, really made me a happy guy.

Check it out!

This book is gorgeous. It almost entirely full page color art work. There is a small chapter with interviews at the back. The artwork covers every game through Link Between Worlds. And every game is given it's due.

As a fan of Link's Awakening, I am used to my first Zelda game getting the short shrift in favor of more popular franchises like Ocarina of Time. But this book will give you a lot to look at, no matter what your favorite game is.

This is all beautiful stuff. I want most of these pages as large posters.

Awesome art book. I found it odd all of the interviews were shoved towards the back, even though they reference specific pages. Would’ve been nice to have the interviews weave throughout. They were essentially in the same order anyway.

Arts & Artifacts is pretty much all concept and published art for the first 25 years of the Legend of Zelda series, spanning from the first NES Legend of Zelda game to Skyward Sword. At the end, there's also a few pages of concept art for Breath of the Wild. Each game consists of character designs for Link in each game, the supporting cast, and villains. It's interesting to see how the designs have changed over the years and how much the series has grown.

The last few pages of the book is an interview with the character designers as they talk about the decisions they went through for each variation. It's pretty cool to get a little behind the scenes look at the franchise's history. Definitely a book to add to your collection if you're a big Legend of Zelda fan.
