This is the second installment in The Body Finder series. I really like this series because of the mystery; it's intense, chilling and totally captivating. It becomes so real in these books that I literally become scared to death for the character's lives. Derting does a great job of bringing the mystery to life and doing it a way that has you on the edge of your seat!
I felt that the beginning and the middle were a little slow, but once it came close to the ending, I was very pleased at the change of pace. It picked up and got really exciting as the mystery started to all come together. I can't say I loved this book, but it was a really good sequel that was very enjoyable and really exciting.
As you may already know, our main character, Violet can hear, taste or hear echoes of those who've been murdered. There is an imprint that comes along with every dead body, and Violet has a gift of finding they bodies. Now, it is a year after homecoming where things turned down a very dangerous path, and Violet hopes for a normal year. She wants to spend time with Jay, her new boyfriend and not have to worry about any dead bodies. However, Violet comes to realize that her gift will not leave her alone in spite of her desire to rid herself of the prescience of dead bodies.
One thing leads to another and she discovers the body of a young boy. This not only draws her attention, but an FBI agent makes her appearance as well. Sara Priest, the FBI agent should be watched out for and kept close, because she's threatening and mysterious.
As Violet struggles to keep her gift a secret, two teenagers move into town; Mike and Megan. Sara seeks Violet's help to find out the past of these sibling's family history. Violet's involvement triggers weird events that are targeting her, and she does not know who is behind them. As Jay spends more time with Mike, Violet begins to discover the dark truth before it's too late.
If you love reading a good mystery, than look no further! These books have great mysteries that are so fascinating because of the main character's gift. They give you goosebumps and have you biting your nails the whole way through! I really liked this sequel and I am looking forward to the third book in this series, The Last

I only gave this a 4 star rating instead of a 5 because I did figure out how the story was going to end way before. But it was still a really good book!

I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the last one.
Where as in the first one the writing was atmospheric & creepy in this I found it to be just detail heavy about the most banal of things.
I will definitely be continuing on with the series as there was still lots that I loved but just not enough of it, if that makes sense.
Hopefully a bit more will happen in the next one.

Desires of the Dead begins with a hot new guy popping up at school and bringing with him, a creepy little sister. I can't decide which book in this series I liked best. This one was just so headturning! Violet is all up and down in this book. She has a hard time dealing with her gift and regrets the harm that it causes the people she loves. She does a lot of stuff I disagree with like withholding information from Jay and her parents. Even though, she and Jay's relationship grow greatly throughout the story and he proves to be just as sweet and caring as I thought he was. He is really understanding about Violet and doesn't give up on her.
What I love about The Body Finder books is that they are equally romance and mystery. I think Kimberly is the Queen of suspense and the scary scenes have me giggling nervously in class. This time the mystery is incredibly tricky and all over the place. You think that you have it, but then you are bamboozled again! I had a lot of fun reading this book and had to frequently stop for fear of a panic attack, but I had a choice I'd do it all over again!

debated as to whether or not to give this three stars. I had a really rough time with the first half of the book mainly because violet insisted in keeping everything to herself and i found that incredibly annoying. after she opens up to jay about what was actually happening I started to like the story much more, thus the four stars. one ill read again, but not for a while. excites to see where book three takes me!!

In a genre that seems to thrive on supernatural reads, it so hard to be original. That's what I love most about this series, it is so completely original! That's why I have been waiting anxiously for this much anticipated sequel, and it definitely didn't disappoint!
While it may not have been as creepy as The Body Finder, it kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat all the same. Kimberly's writing is wonderful and I may even go so far as to say she is one of the best YA writers out there! She really developed the characters even more in this edition, and when it comes to adding to the mystery, it's no holds barred!
Jay and Violet....Violet and Jay...*sigh* What a great couple they are, and I must admit that I might have a HUGE small crush on Jay. He is so..perfect. Violet on the other hand did some things that I didn't completely agree with in this book, but her actions her justified so I can't really hold it against her.
All in all this was a great follow up to a hard to follow up book. Now we just have to make it through the long, long wait for the third book. I can't wait to see what Kimberly Derting has in store for us next!

After reading The Body Finder, I couldn't wait to read the sequel! I loved the originality of Violet's "ability". I was a little worried, however, because there are very few book or movie series where the sequel is as good or better than the first. I think I proved myself right, although I was pleasantly surprise by how fantastic Desires of the Dead was.
In the first book, the "murder mystery" was new and exciting, as was the relationship between Jay and Violet. This book had a more predictable storyline and the adrenaline didn't jolt me in the last chapter.
What I always find annoying is when you have a perfect couple, who finally get together in the first or first few books and then there is nowhere to go but downhill. There must be some movement in the relationship, it can't just remain static, so the couple has to work through problems and a "rough patch". Unfortunately, the same is true for Jay and Violet in this novel.
I enjoyed getting to know Violet in the first book. She was a great, strong protagonist, who didn't have to rely on a man to save her when she found a body and was not the typical emotional girl. The operative word being was. In Desires of the Dead, Violet becomes jealous and paranoid, which I didn't like too much. She annoyed me during the middle of the book, but she finally came out of it and proved herself to me again. By the end of the book, she was back to her normal self.
I can't get enough of Jay. He may be the perfect boyfriend, and has always been and stayed that way. He is so kind and understanding, not only of Violet's strange gift, but also the way it affects Violet. I would read the next book just for him and the heightened romance scene that were displayed in this sequel...and had me holding me breath so as to refrain from squealing. :)
Overall, the book wasn't a perfect five, but it was great! I would recommend it to anyone who liked fantasy set in a normal life. This book deserves a four mask rating from me. :)

This was a great read. It was a bit less entertaining because I did not like parts when Violet and Jay were not together. I thought the story was a bit slow. However, I still loved the characters. Violet is still one of my favourite heroines. I thought she could have gotten help a lot faster than she did. I think the romance was also a bit off. Jay was another favourite of mine. I did think that he did make some unneccesary decisions though.
This new character Rafe was stalking her and he seemed creepy showing up around Violet at weird times. The reason I loved this book is because of Violet and Jay's relationship. It was great to see them. Although, I was not expecting what happened. It was nice to see them back together after that short time separated. I can't wait for book 3. Overall, an enjoyable read.
