I’ve been a fan for a number of years, so my opinion is a bit biased. But with self-help / new age gurus falling into conspiracy holes all around us, I was a little worried for Martha. But her basic process works just as well attached to the Divine Comedy metaphor. You may enjoy it on a lit interpretation level as well as life interpretation one.

This is far too woo for me. MP maps Dante's _Inferno_ onto - for lack of a better description - a step-by-step guide to happiness. I am being mean and glib, but the language in the book is tough to condense.

Honestly, I did find it interesting. And I see why MP is so popular/successful, because the writing is clear, relatable, and often funny. It just didn't really speak to me.

THE WAY THIS BOOK CHANGED MY WHOLE DAMN LIFE. And it reaffirmed things about myself that I’ve been fighting against for years that have felt outside of my integrity. Now I understand why my last job gave me an autoimmune disease. Now I know why I feel better than I ever have, and have more energy than I can ever recall having.

Martha Beck…you are my soul teacher. Thank you.

I read this book while making some very big career decisions. Really glad I found it when I did.

Really helpful. 4 stars Because not a fan of books that give exercises to do. It’s not very practical when you’re on a kindle.

Highly recommend, and Beck's narration is very easy on the ears. I'm thinking about getting the ebook with Audible narration (Whisper sync) so I can get more out of it.

5 stars.

This book was recommended to me by a woman I met who is struggling with life decisions as an expat and the things she said about it made me curious enough to download it. I realized I couldn't just listen so I also purchased a paper version so that I could do the exercises.

I don't have the words in my vocabulary to speak to how this book has impacted my thought process. I will be keeping it on my bedside and working through these steps for years to come.

If you are someone struggling with the ugliness in the world and feeling like you aren't living YOUR best life, do consider picking this one up.

Enjoyed the extended metaphor and explanation of Dante’s Inferno. Maybe I heard most of this via various podcasts, but I found the writing to be laborious and repetitive. Still I find Martha Beck’s story fascinating and glad I read.
