Good for its genre. I liked it more because it was set in Philly and I was familiar with the setting I think. It was a little twisty.

There is nothing I love more than a police procedural that draws you and keeps you there.

Richard Montanari tells the gripping tale of a hard knock homicide detective and his brand new rookie partner. The cliches are evident but that didn't stop the book from being compelling. I really enjoyed the dialogue here because it wasn't cheesy and oft-putting like a lot of similar types of books. The characters were well developed and the antagonist was grotesquely evil. There were a couple red herrings involved in the mystery that had me guessing. The ending didn't go how I expected. Overall, this was a really good crime thriller. I look forward to reading more from Montanari.

Really good read

The story in this is really well written. The two main characters are nicely written and you learn about them as the book goes. Really well paced and for such a difficult topic it is easy to read

I don't usually like crime stories, but this one was really enjoyable. Not as slow as some other thrillers/crime stories.

YIKES. Great story but SO VIOLENT!
Kept me guessing... He did it. He did it. He did it.
Great characters. But very graphic violence.

the case was an interesting one and i liked kevin and jessica together (also refreshing that a vet cop actually likes and supports his new partner!), but some of the writing was too heavy handed (so many cheesy metaphors). kinda [a:Jeffrey Deaver|13967759|Jeffrey Deaver|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] like. good enough i'd read more but in no rush.
